MOT joy!!
« on: April 06, 2005, 14:18:09 »
:(biglaugh): I took HL for MOT this morning, and I must admit  I was expecting a reasonably expensive list of failed items; so I was very relieved to receive a notice with just one item on it!!!  :(biglaugh):  She only needs the N/S/F track rod end replacing!!! Am I a happy bunny or what??  :(biglaugh):

I gave up worrying about mot's, always put the vehicle in a month before its due, give me time to cry with joy or sadness, and has the time to get the work done. If it passes first time or with minimum of hassle the noew certificate can be back dated the amount left on the old one

I don't know why but I thought mine was not due until the end of the month. Checked the date yesterday and found out that it finished tomorrow.

Got the motor booked in for this morning 9.00 am. Had no time to check for anything obvious , only enough before it got dark to run it to the nearest jetwash and gave it a good clean (£7   ) .

Passed with nothing to report.

There ya go isn't ignorance bliss, you didn't have time to worry about the mot until it was too late

Mind you if you hadn't spotted it, you would probably been pulled on friday to produce your documents, thats when it really cheeses you off :?

Mots see them all day long working in a garage unfortunately only ever see two landies in the workshop Stanton Boy's and Neil Thorne - both mot testers they test each others and enjoy looking for failable items so they can get nice and dirty helping each other repair the failed items.

Its is true legally mot can be done up to a month before date of expiry on certificate which gives you a months le way to cry about repairs and vehicle still legal on the road. And as long as you provide the previous mot certificate at the time of test/retest it can be forward dated to the expiry date.

hey i know full of useless information but not everybody knows about above and leaves it to day before or several days weeks after, recently i had one customer who was 6 months over due for mot - and they had got away with it

Mine just failed   but only on the indicator light on the dash not flashing and the emissions to high so not to bad   I will now have to set the pump back to standard and give it a flush with some injector cleaner.  It could have been worse I have only just rebuilt the passenger side sill he would have had a right laugh if I hadn’t done this it did a very good impression of a tea bag don’t you just love land rovers :?

Only thing you have to watch if you test it early, dont run up too many miles before the re-test they could insist on a full mot again, not just re-testing the failed components of the first one

I thought I heard - and I could easily be wrong - that when they go electronic, a failed MOT will be immediate regardless of how much time is left on the current MOT!?

Didn't they give you one of those little blue stickers to go inside your windscreen, with the due date on it? :)

No, The main reason for this is so that if your vehicle is seen by
a number plate recognition camera it will notify the police that the
MOT has expired.

Don't worry - even if you do get one the date fades after a couple of months - long before you need to actually be reminded of the next test date anyway

Put a but of white masking tape on the inside of the sun visor, or somewhere else you can see it, write the mot date on that

Passed first try---Great.  Did an end to end service over the last 3 months & finished off with the brakes last week.  Only one siezed piston on the back & got that freed off + a set of pads in the back as well. 12 months hassle free motoring (I hope)--Hurray--Cogs
