Help on upgrading a D110 TD5 rear axle (P38)

People Hi,

As most of you already know the newer D110 vehicles are fitted with the P38 DANA rear axle instead of the Salisbury.

I would be extremely obliged if you could advise me of any readily available upgrades for this axle. Things like selectable or automatic locking diffs (100% or lower or progressive), heavy duty halfshafts, different driving hubs etc.

Your kind input is always appreciated.

I may be wrong but as i understood it P38 s2 r-r axles had the diff on the opposite side to 90/110 - hence why they are fairly common in salvage over here 'cos no-one can use them if they've not got a p38. In addition the nose is shorter (it is aparently the same diff as in a wolf xd) so props are non-standard unless you're UK military.

Pleaase feel free to confirm other wise 'cos they are very easy to get hold of but if they don't mate to anythign other than a p38 they are still not much use....

Hingmy Hi,

I was NOT refering to the Range Rover P38A vehicles' rear axle but to the rear axle fitted to the currently produced D110 TD5 vehicles.
It is since 2002 or 2003 that Land Rover has stopped using the Salisbury rear axle on the D110s and has fitted a rear axle produced by DANA which has the codename P38. This of course makes most people confusing this axle with the second generation of RaRo vehicles which had the same code name with an A at the end.

This Dana rear axle has the diffhousing on the same side as the Salisbury. I can not tell you though whether its nose is longer, shorter or the same as the Salisbury's or if the rear propshaft has the same length. Maybe newer Defender 110 vehicles use a different rear propshaft for the Dana rear axle.

In any case it was for this Dana produced rear axle that I was enquiring.

Would this be Dana as in the maker of Jeep axles? Being stuck in the stone age I'd no idea of this, ta much for bringing me up to date.

DANA alsom made the axles for the Transit County conversion.  I think they are a US company.
