That's not strictly true it works fine for Intel macs - there seem to be some issues with Power PC Macs, but some have found it works fine.

Oh ps3 is flash only.  Works great though - I unplugged my ariel from the back of the tv a few weeks ago and use a combination of tvcatchup and iplayer for all tv now. Don't need a licence fee anymore ;)

Not only is it a licence fee for watching live broadcasts but it seems it is also a fee to stop BBC harassment, be interesting to see how much psuedo threatening spam you suddenly get from them when stopping paying now you do not need to... but I bet it's not the level to make 140 squid worth paying to get them shutup though

i dont think thats strictly true is it? i think if you have a telly you need a license regardless of whether you have an aerial or not from the tv license website

You need to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record TV as it's being broadcast. This includes the use of devices such as a computer, laptop, mobile phone or DVD/video recorder.

tvcatchup and iplayer are purely playback across the internet not watch as it's being broadcast on TV and therefore do not require TV license (yet). If you was using a computer to record a  program as its being broadcast then yes you need a license. Plenty of references from the horses mouth on google about this.

iPlayer does contain live streams of most BBC channels, which you would legally require a licence to view.  You don't need a licence for just the catch-up stuff afaik.

Changed due to the internet. All internet based TV is licence free, basically you could be anywhere in the world watching it (proxy servers). Up to a couple of years ago, yes your right.

Digressing slightly

It's annoying when they don't upload programmes to it.

I want to see this Fridays 'Question Of Sport', even though it's something I very rarely see (as it's probably usually full of brain-dead f**tballers), but Alistair Brownlee* was on (as I was at work, & didn't know he was on it) & I'd like to see how he did
