OIL LIGHT & WIPERS 200tdi
« on: April 08, 2005, 08:41:38 »
Hi Guys,
Just bought a 1994 200tdi, nice wagon, but has a couple of problems. One is the oil light keeps flashing on. It's fine while driving along, but as soon as you depress the clutch or while just ticking over it comes on.
Also is there an easy eay to get behind the dash to change the windscreen wiper posts, mine are shot, no splines left, but I can't just get the end off as it has corroded on. Started to take the dash apart yesterday, what a nightmare!!! Got a Haynes manual, but it's not much help, just says remove all the screws and bolts....yeah right, must be 350 of them!!!!
Cheers for any help you can give

Low oil pressure then. You have checked your oil level and it is fine then?

dash is easy to take off.

there are half a dozen screws along the top, you may need to loosen the instrument console then lift the top off. you should be able to get to everything then.

The motor is under the bottom left of the dash, if memory serves me right about 3 screws hold on the cover.

Thanks for that guys,
Managed to fix the wipers by just undoing the top of the dash, great hint, thanks.
While we had the dash apart we cleaned the terminals on the back of the oil warning light and that seems to be fine now, so both problems are now sorted.
Also fitted the alarm, so had a productive weekend!!!!

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40
