TD5 belt screech
« on: December 05, 2009, 18:03:20 »
I have a 90 TD5, which when I accelerate hard has a belt screech.  Also on start up, since the really wet weather started, there is a slight running 'hiss' which sounds like the belt, until the engine warms up.  The belt is slightly shiny.  Does it sound like it's due for renewal?

Cheers,

David.

Are you sure that it's the belt making the noise?

You can get exhaust manifolds that screech under acceleration when the gasket has gone.

Also, check the idler pully for signs that the bearing has gone insde it.

Exhaust Manifold is most likely check for missing nut on either cylinder 1 or 5 and sign of leaking. there is plenty of information on most 4x4's forum (probably on here too) on what you'll need to do to sort it.
