TD5 Fuel Pump Dead..?
« on: December 17, 2009, 21:22:46 »
Hi all,

Need some help please, I started the TD5 tonight and could hear a funny buzzing/squealing noise from under the back of the disco, just behind the rear drivers side wheel...Then it died, will not start again... :(...I assume that it is the fuel pump packed up...Can some one confirm this as a common fault or sound when they go...How much are they to buy.

Regards, Terry

it is possible its knackerd, but these pumps make that noise when their is air being sucked in,i.e it would make that kind of noise if you had nearly ran out nof fuel for instance,or if a line was split, but one common thing for this is the block on the drivers side of the engine, right at the back, near the bulk head, check thats not leaking fuel, cause if it is,air is getting in,causing your pump to run dry, hence the noise, check the oil as well,as the injectors are inside the head, and can leak diesel into the engine, you will see a rise in the level if thet are leaking, hope this may help, jim.

Just for the record, with your ignition on, press n hold down the gas pedal, and it will make the pump run continuously,
this will help to purge the system, also hear if the pump is running, Not a cure im sorry but a helpfull tip  ??  Good luck
TD5 with a few Tweaks ;o)
a bit more fuel friendly than the V8

with the defender td5 you need to pump the pedal 5 times this kicks the prime function in
growing old is compulsory --- growing up is optional
