Purging Fuel system Disco TD5
« on: December 22, 2009, 19:26:34 »
Hi peeps,

How do you purge the fuel system on the above vehicle, I have just fitted a new fuel pump and tried the old 3 minutes with the ignition lights on, then crank it, wait 15 seconds and repeat...It wont fire.....Anything else I can try before it goes to the garage or up in flames ...I knew there was a reason I went of Landys..Pain in the ass.

Cheers, Terry

turn the ignition on,then imediatly press the acelarator pedel 6 times, the engine light will flash, and then the pump will start to purge, but if you've tried to start it,you've pump more air in,so do this procedure twice, hope this helps mate, jim :D

Quickly, After I have pumped the pedal 6 times, the engine light did come on and flash, when do I try and start the car, while it is flashing or once it has stopped...?

Ok mate, gonna let the battery charge for a bit, teh nput the boost pack on aswell just to make sure, I really hope it works, could it be anything else stopping it running...Like I said the diesel was low but I had only done around 10miles with the light on..the pump starting making a loud noise then the car died...I called the AA out and he thought it was the fuel pump, as did I, so I fitted a new one and still wont start...The new pump is making the same noise but for a lot shorter period...I take it this is the air in the system...Correct..?

yeah, the pump will make different noises when there is air in the system, when its bleed up,you can hardly hear it,the reason the pump gets loud like that,is because it starts to run dry, like a power steering pump, they get louder when the fluid level is down, simlar kind of thing, and by the way, when youY do the procedure we,ve been talking about, dont turn the engine over whi;le its going through its cycle,as it will cancel it out,and put more air in the system
