« on: December 28, 2009, 13:50:32 »
took the cam follower slides out and cant see any that have collapsed or broken on my mums 300tdi but there are 2 that have slight damage to the side of the pushrod seats,

will this cause it to not run with a new cambelt??

number 6 in the picture

also do i just replace the 2 that have been damaged or replace them all??

F W It's W I replaced just the broken one on my NA last year and on road test another one broke (inspected them all) so suggest replace all for £60ish from craddocks, save doing the job twice maybe

they have not broken, there is only the slightest bit of damage to the side of the cups on 2 of them where the pushrod has kicked when it bent after the cambelt broke

If they have been involved in a cambelt breaking then for peace of mind I'd swap them all, they are hardened metal which can be brittle and they might well bust soon after you get it back on the road.

As for preventing it starting, I can't see that unless they are sticking :-k

Can we assume you set the valve clearances [-o<

the slides are phospher bronze so should stand up to some shock,

i didnt set the clearences when it frst went, i checked them when it broke, i will be setting them correctly when the head goes back on and everything is back together,
