How much did your service cost?
«

a few weeks ago, I had to service my '57 Defender, and had been told I had to do this at the dealership, otherwise i'd void the 3 year warranty.
Although i'd booked it in for the 23rd December, my engine management light came on the dash, while out for a drive.
I pulled in and phoned Land Rover Assist, who, after plotting my position where I was, she offered me a callback with a technician, who told me that if there was no reduction in performance, carry on. No probs there.
The young lady called back and said recovery would be in 2 hours time. I retold the technician's conversation, and was advised to talk to the dealers.
I did this, and brought forward the servicing date and to get the EGM problem sorted, and they arranged a courtesy car. Following Monday, all was sorted.
The following day, the dealers phoned me to say my Defender was ready, and I asked the cost, I had to prop myself on the courtesy car when they annonced;
£535, plus change.
after I recovered, I said I couldn't afford that, so they phoned back, with a final quote of £491, plus change.
Has anyone paid as much for a service?

Got quoted nearly £800 for the big service on our 51 plate 90
At this point we stopped using main stealers
I think im right in saying you can get ya landy serviced elsewhere if they used equivalent spec parts,
I use genuine parts and do it me self these days, the last big service including changing ALL fluids and a set of rear pads, and replacing 4 u/joints it cost me just over £200 all in,

Obviously having an older defender I can service my own but at work the boss still insists on taking the 2 Td5's to our local non dealer LR specialist. Now seeing as we are going through a bit of a tight time at work with the old recession and jobs drying up as a result I can't see how he can justify paying the £400-£600 it seems to cost each time just for a bloody oil and filters change. Especially when we have our own ramp, 2 of our guys used to be grease monkeys for many years before moving to us and obviously I service my own  And there have been times when we have to find ourselves jobs to keep ourselves busy (and employed )
We also have 300tdi that never seems to get serviced
Oh and guess what the first thing I have to do is when I go back to work in the new year? Yup, take my Td5 in for it's service  Drop it off on the Monday, pick it up on the Tuesday which means I have to spend those two days kicking around the yard looking busy again :-k

my last service stood me at 40 quid and i thought that was dear. last time a dealer touched one of my cars it came back worse than it went in so i invited trading standards to have a look and the 600 quid repair bill went away.

Just remember that you DO NOT have to have it serviced at a main stealers to maintain the warranty.
As long as genuine parts are used they can't quibble. There is talk of "eqiviliant" parts but who decides what is "equivilant"?

I would suggest your £535 is pretty normal at a main dealer. But as other have said, you can get it serviced elsewhere as long as they use genuine parts. Your warranty is protected under the block exemption scheme.
Our Freelander would have been around £450 at the main dealer, but costs us around £200 at an independant specialist.

I think now you can use any VAT registered garage for service work, something to do with unfair competition. I could have my Micra serviced where I like and not void the warranty, but the nice Nissan man gave me free serviceing for 36,000 anyway.

price sounds about right.did you get a break down of costs from them. parts ,labour .
i work as a land rover mechanic with a independent land rover specialist just a few miles from you and we service and repair new and used landys .so you dont have to take it to a main dealer for servicing but some warranty work you do ,this is only because it takes a long time to get paid from the warranty firms.

father-in-law had his disco service due at stratstones but the price was such a shock he tried a landy mech(lyndsay harris) close to me and it cost him less than half what stratstones wanted and he still got his book stamped to maintain his warranty. its well worth looking around for someone other than a dealership

I have a Disco TD5 on a 51 and paid about £380 at SPLR for the last service. They fully flushed the engines and replaced all the fluids so I think its about right.

Do NOT buy a new RR then :) The 16,000 mile gap between services is, however, very cool
