Disco Clutch Problem

Hi All

Happy New Year

I recently had a problem with my clutch making a horrendous noise, so got a new clutch and off came the gearbox. what I found inside was the remains of the
spigot bearing and a very broken clutch.

I replaced the clutch with a new one and fitted a new spiggot bearing.

Put the whole lot back together and hey presto, I struggle to engage the gears very notchy. someone has suggested that this might be caused by the new spiggot bearing binding on the layshaft.

I am pretty sure the clutch was installed the right way round so dont think that is the problem.

Any thoughts on what might be the cause ?.

Also the small clip that hold the release bearing to the clutch fork was missing does anyone know if you can buy these seperatley or does anyone have one lying around looking for a home !!

Don't worry about the white plastic clip, once the box is refitted you don't need it.(all it does is hold the release bearing to the fork)

You may find that you need to bleed the clutch as when you disturb the slave cylinder to remove the gearbox it can draw in a little air which then does'nt allow the clutch to clear.
Failing that the slave cylinder may be leaking( again this can occur after disturbing the slave cylinder.

The clutch throw is adjustable on some cars, but try ajusting it.  If the thrust bearing wajamming on the spiggot it wouldn't stop you disengaing it, but it's possible the plate is jamming on the splines if they weren't cleaned up.  New plates always sit in a different place.

i had this , what i done is when i re fitted the box it didnt quite line up properly and just nipped a bit of the spiggot bush when it finaly went in. the swarf it picked up was just enough to make it drag .im not saying it is this just double check what every one else has said first . but i ended up doing the job again with a new spiggot bush and more care when the box went back in ..alan
