gearbox
« on: January 06, 2010, 19:34:34 »
hey there guys!

in need of some advice on the old box of cogs and springs!

my 300tdi discos gearbox is on the way out! lots of really bad rattles going on in there!

mate of mine is breaking his defender though!

he has an lt77 box

i know the two boxes are slightly different but by how much?

is there any hope what so ever of getting a def lt77 full run as in all 3 boxes in a disco?

any advice or solutions would be great!

thanks

Blakey!!!

The lt77 and R380 are interchangeable between Discos or between Defenders.

The Defender has a shorter input side, more compact clutch etc to keep the weight forwards.

Then the TDi has a shorter bellhousing than a V8

You could put the Defender one in but you'll find it sits much closer to the engine, the gearsticks will be wrong as will the propshafts and crossmemeber.

If they were both LT77 you could possibly build one box out of the two.

A mate has a 200TDi engine and box in a RRC, the engine is so far back there's no heater.
