best snow moments
« on: January 07, 2010, 21:46:03 »
what are your 3 best moments? mine are:

1 towing a freelander attached to a mercedess up an iced up 1 in 4 hill for about 300 yards.

2 using my 110 and a mates 90 to tow a 7.1/5 tonner up the same hill.

3 taking 10 minutes to go 200 yards down a 1 in 3 side street, 1st gear, low range. this was after being flagged down by a disco driver who had just gone into the back of a parked bmw  we were inching down when my mate came out with the brilliant line "aim for the disco, we can fix that ".genius.
1990 defender 127 flatbed 200tdi mud tyres stripdown started 14/03, now striped, ned to start the expensive bit

3. watchingthe muppets in the office next door get a peugeot 306 stuck diagonally across the up slope on their drive then having to drive past it to pull them up  :D then watching them get a bmw stuck in exacly the same place and then out of pride refusing my help untill the had exausted every other option

Well,

The look on the face of the woman in the Egg farm when we popped in to buy eggs during a blizzard.
Using HDC when I actually needed it
Towing a car out of a hedge whit the police helping
Remembering why I keep AT's on the Freelander
Remembering why I bought one wiht the winter pack (Heated Seats, Window, Fuel buring Heater)
Remembering why I keep a "popper" two ton stop in the car
Driving out up the grren lane that is the alternate route to our house, as the main lane was sheet ice

Best of all the look on my daugters face as she sledged down the drive in a platic storage box (shes under 2)

And That comment about "Aim for the disco, we can fix that" is pure genius.

Just enjoying the snow!!

Lots and lots of recoveries, including a gritter  (counts as 3!!)

Taking my daughter sledging after school (her school has been in every day while every other school around has been closed, poor sod!)

Watching my neighbour (who is a neighbour from hell!!) refuse my help and stuff his new Focus into the wall

I know that sounds evil, but he has made my life hell for two years now, damaging my cars and house, blocking my access with chain and bollards and generally abusing me so I will enjoy this moment!!

Took a pic of the sunset over the bonnet of my Toyota Landcruiser last night. Nice being the only person at that height for miles around.

I know nothing about photography but that's a damn fine photo.

It looks like you took it at the edge of a lake which is reflecting the tree covered mountains on each side.

I thought the same. I had to look at it several times before I realised it wasn't a lake. Great photo

1. Getting all the way home last Tuesday 15 miles in ~4 hours, and hearing from my boss he'd had to walk the last 5 miles (he lives 1/2 mile from me) and left his XK8 stuck in a drift taking 8 hours in total.

2. On the way home last Tuesday climbing Funtley Hill to the surprise of the everyone else, the only vehicle that did.

3. Getting a thumbs up from a copper driving a hired in 110 SW.

Worst: finding the constant snow clearing has broken the wiper rack cable...
