Says built three years ago, but does it meet the DVLA points system ?

Engine, no
Gearbox no
Axles No
Body No they didn't make 4 doors in 71 !!

Not looking good is it ??

I reckon only tax exempt bit is the drivers side chassis leg, the one with the numbers on...............if there are any !

From what I can tell from the pics it looks like a hidden hinge model so it will be a rebody on an early chassis to start out with I'm on my phone so might be wrong

Guy's before you go jumping read the listing again, especially the questions other's have asked(the first one on5/1)

It won't need an SVA because it was converted so long ago(4x4 to a 6x6). To change a 2 door body to a 4 door only requires you to notify DVLA of a body change as is the engine.From what i have read it was finished three years ago not converted. But know doubt someone better informed will be along shortly

I would love a 6x6 but cant make up my mind if I like it or not. a defender hard top 6x6 would be brilliant though!

It looks like its been stuffed up the a** by a trailer tent! Wrong body,wrong gear box / transfer box and most likely wrong axles,brakes, change of engine/fuel type!IT LOOK CRAP AND SHOULDNT BE TAX EXEMPT!

For tax exempt you need a certain amount of points (I think it is eight)

Points go something like:-

Chassis OR monocoque body, 5 points.  As LR’s have a chassis the body does not count.
Axles 2 points
Suspension 2 points
Gearbox and transmition 2 points
Steering 2 points
Engine 1 point

Will this fit the requirements????

a friend of mine who has a 6x6 rangie might be buying a different item off the same guy by pure co-incidence and if he gets it he will have a look around the rangie.

I dont think it is mega ugly. I think possibly changing the wheels would improve it alot and put glass in the very rear windows instead of plastic would probably help!

done a quick thing in paint to put ranger rover 3 spoke wheels on. looks a bit better I think. I do have a soft spot for those rims with grizzly claws on though! :lol:

but the chassis was stretched with a two door body on, so if it was built into a 6x6 at the same time it would not need an SVA and would still keep the old plate. if it was done before the old SVA rules came in that is.

as it has a chassis you can change the body.

the engine is a conversion, if the vehicle was built before the SVA then all that needs to be done is the change declared.

Hooge grey area, which is why I'm not bidding.  There's a phrase that goes "built or significanlty rebuilt" and although the body counts for no points, the chassis is all of them, you could argue that as none of the original car survives and it has been rebuilt under a Disco shell and 100 Hi-cap with a new engine that it has been rebuilt again since the rules came into force, given that 'the rules' are what 15 years old?

Somehow I'm not satisfied by "because it is" as an explanation either.

neither am i, just pointing out that it may still be possible if it has only had the roof etc changed. what you need to prove is that it was done before the new rules came in. very very difficult unless you have a datestamped picture or something similar. obviously not a digital pic or on the net.

that thing being tax exempt is a bit like ive had this brush for 20 years its had 5 new heads and 3 new handles but its still the same brush
i would not bid on that been too messed about with how you goin to get spair parts for it who will insure it who ever does it will cost many beer tokens

It says original chassis,but i bet it aint! Just i quick look at the direction of the rear shocks will help. I knew 2  people who had tax exempt plates for rangys and they both went on numerous 4 doors many times!!!!!!!!! We all like to beat the system but that was taking the p**s!!!!!!!!!!
