Fuel filter ?
«
on:

My 200tdi 90's been running really rough, starts fine, drives away fine but then seems to get starved of fuel. I was wondering if it was due to the freezing temperature because it seems to have started when the snow came. I'm going to replace the fuel filter tomorrow but have never done it before, looks to be pretty straight forward but do i have to bleed the filter ?

i had the same probs with my old 110, it was a tiny split in fuel pipe no. 4, between fuel pump and engine. it was only obvious when the fuel was under pressure i.e engine running. as for bleeding the fuel filter, i didnt when i serviced my disco(200 tdi) and it ran fine................. til i had a massive mechanical failiure and the engine seized!!!!!!!!!

all you do when you change the filter,is bleed up just the filter, all you do is,put the filter on,undo the little 11mm bolt on the top of the filter housing, then prime it with the manuel lever on the lift pump,if there's no resistence on that lever, you may need to turn the engine slightly to get it on the cam, once the diesel starts to flow out of the little bolt hole, then do it back up,the bolt has a slot cut in it,so you wont have to take it right out, hope this helps mate, jim.

cheers guys, job for the morning then :) if that don't cure it then i'll have a look at the fuel lines, though there isn't any wet areas on the engineto indicate a leak.

Just had this problem myself. I had some dodgy fuel in the summer and now the last drops of water etc have turned to snot and blocked the filter. Just change it bud am sur this wil sort it. Pour the fuel from the old filter into the new one to give you a start on the bleed as well.

Well so far so good, changed the filter and it's running fine at the moment, though it's not been anywhere near as cold since so here's hoping it'll stay running ok ;)
