Sky HD signal
« on: January 10, 2010, 20:34:42 »
Over the last few weeks we have had a lot of trouble with Sky HD reception.  It will be fine for several hours, then if there is maybe a little bit of wind or snow, every few minutes the screen goes blue and we get a message saying the signal has gone.  The picture comes back on after a few seconds.  We have contacted Sky several times, their helpdesk engineers have talked us through how to reset the box, and a guy has come out and replaced the receiver in the dish.  Resetting the box has meant that we have lost everything we recorded over Christmas, including Dr Who, which I was particularly miffed off about.  Programmes are almost unwatchable as the signal comes and goes, and we cannot rely on it to record anything - too many programmes are 'part rec' or 'failed'.

We had no trouble with the set-top box until we moved at the end of November.

Has anyone else had problems with Sky HD reception during the snowy conditions or is it just us?

Our normal sky box does the same. Do you have a neighbour with a tall tree in the direction that your dish is pointing in?

Have you had a look in the Setting menu. I think you should see two readings one "Stength" and One "Quality" (I think) Also I think like Sky+ HD has 2 inputs so you should see the two readings for each input.

As has been said weather will affect it, as will trees. Also your dish could have moved or the connections outside or inside could be poor or corroding. Look at the streanght/quaity on a "good" day and check for trees. If not your install my need a freshen up.

when the snow collects on the dish it alters its focal length, which in return looses its gain hence the lost signal, or simply the snow and ice is detuning the dish..........simples
