HEATER MATRIX REMOVAL
« on: January 17, 2010, 15:21:47 »
I've just bought a '92 RRC, the heater matrix has been disconnected from the water pipes, I can only assume that the matrix needs replacing.

Is this a mammoth job?????????????????

I have taken some of the dash off and can see the air con unit under the dash on the passenger side, does all of this need to be removed to get at the heater???

Any info you can give me will be great.

Thanks
Craig

The aircon unit under the dash is about the only bit that doesn't have to come out! What does is:
lower facia both sides
facia panel with vents in
steering column shroud
cubby box
gear lever surround
switch panel next to heater controls
heater controls
little indent in centre of dash

Then you can get the heater box out and extract the matrix from it.  If I recall correctly, the Rangie one has been discontinued, but the one from a Disco fits.  I was told it required modification, but it fitted in mine without any changes.

Assembly is the reverse procedure - except you swear in different places

I know mine is a Disco, but, i did mine in a day with the help of a mate, out, cleaned and back in. It was a fiddly job, but not as bad as i though it would be (i wouldn't want to do another in a hurry).

I have some photos if any help, but as i said its a Disco.

Mine took about a day but seemed quite straight forward. Mine is none air-con. Used a disco heater box complete. Had a different part No but manufacturers part No seem to be the same on both.
