still smoking on start up
« on: January 26, 2010, 18:55:05 »
posted about this before on start up sounds like a bag of spanners clouds of smoke white smoke that stinks of deisel put recon injectors in with new washer touqued all up and done glowplugs and relay still the same. now ive been told it may be a head gasket between to water channels seeping water in over night into the bore and sealing when hot would answer colour of smoke and bad starting aswell but could it be the injector pump playing up on start up im thinking of checking the timing but if it was out it would play up all the time surley this is realy getting to me now  :'(

Uless the timing is sticking on the pump when it's cold :-k

White, acrid smoke sounds like timing, water would be wet, steamy and not really smell.  Thing is it's going to steam in this weather.  If it runs fine after that, see how it goes for a while.

My 200 did that. It poured out white/blue smoke when you started it up.  Had a minor lock up on starting first thing one morning. I replace head gasket the next day and never did it again...

my disco once threw out loads of white smoke for 5 mins before getting any power to move. I think I managed to cover Cardiff in fog once!

The problem was the main crank pulley was not done up tight enough and so the key way got worn away which then put the timing out. It is worth a wiggle of the crank shaft pulley for any play.
