try googling "what size tyres can I put on my discovery" this must be the most asked question in the world followed closely by "what came first the chicken or the egg"?

A pal of mine has got 235/85/16 and they rub with a slight articulation.

Hiya

There are two implied questions here... will Defender tyres fit your alloys and would you have any problems...

I have 235/85/16's on standard alloys and they fit fine (and, indeed, are a standard Defender fitment anyway...)

However... if your Disco is standard (as opposed to teh rims...) you may get some rubbing - as pointed out there is plenty of information on this including a sticky at the top of the page!  Mine has a 2" lift and I only get rubbing on the wheelarches at maximum articulation although you will need to wind out the stops to prevent the oversized tyres snagging on your radius arms..

Hope this helps

on mine i have factory freestyle disco alloy wheels. i then have defender 110 fitment 750r16 michelin xpc tyres, these are much narrower in the tread than 235's and as such this helps reduce the amount of modification needed to get them under 16 year old suspension.

all that was needed was to space out the rear wings useing curved ally bar bolted to the chassis (saves the need to trim the body like the camel cut of legend) and the front steering stops were checked to keep the tyres 20mm away from the radius arms on full lock.

what this means is that on full extention without the anti roll bars the tyres do not touch the body which is what we want.

it also has the benefit of the tyres being able to cut through the surface to find grip better as they are so narrow and this is also a benefit in terms of not doing so much damage to a surface in terms of desrupted area over wider tyres. doubtless this last will set people with wide tyres going about the relative merits of wide tyres floating over the ground, but as a farmer it is more important to arrive than it is to play at getting stuck and generations of farmers have never had problems with narrow tyres.
