Northampton Club meetings
« on: January 29, 2010, 21:37:13 »
it has been noticed that less people seem to be attending the northants pub meet since it moved to Overstone.... trying to find out if it is location or night that is a problem for people.

Looking at other area meets there seems to be very little on the third week of the month in the localish area... if we move it back to a monday would more come?

first week would put off Hinckley lads & lasses, 2nd week is B'ham not sure if any of them would come down? last week is coventry area so some that used to come from there don't now.

I realise that frank is not able to attend on a monday but unfortunately if 10 can come for 1 not to it seems wrong to deny the others.

Any suggestions as to where the meet could be moved to should be made by all on here with a possible vote for a final decision.

If the meet is moved & Frank feels unable to continue as Rep would anyone else consider taking the role over.

I personally would prefer it to be closer to the M1 as I am travelling about 70 miles each way at the moment but enjoy the company so don't want to have to stop coming.... If anyone knows where there is good food and special offers then please let them be known. I wouldn't mind the trip to the Overstone as much if the food was better quality!!

If anyone feels the same as Carole please feel free to take over the role of local rep as obviously I'm not capable of doing the job any more.

I therefore resign as Northants Regional Rep as from now.

Overstone Manor has been the home of the Northants meet for a long time, Never had and issues with the food there myself out of the 4 places we have tried I think its far superior

weve been to both the pubs on billing one served cold food and u had to que at the bar for hours to get a drink! let alone trying to park
the 2nd pub was ok but the landlady thought she was the ruler of the world and was far to restrictive
the Greyhound is nice but its a bit cramped for us all and the food is pretty expensive
and the Worlds End is tiny

I believe that Northampton has more than 4 pubs.... lets try to find somewhere new!!

If no one agrees the vote will show that & I will just have to eat before I go or not come down til I get a job!

Frank... no one has said you are not capable but there are a lot that used to come that don't now & it's a shame...

I was hoping for a sensible discussion with involvement from people we rarely see like Minty, Lurch, Lifted Disco, Stuart, Hightower, Hissy, JAS278, Dr Neil, and DOD51E.

If you feel you cannot continue to arrange a meeting then I am very sorry!!

I think that if it all depends on you Carole having to travel all those miles, I'd rather stand down than see you unhappy, you rearrange the meet that isn't even in your area to suit yourself, thats fine by me, I'm fed up with it all anyway.

Ive only Heard one person Moan about Overstone Carole and thats you. And I dont think it matters what day is choosen for the meet it will not suit everyone as we all have so many other important things to attend to, I have been lucky that I can make the meetings because it falls on the week im on night shift other wise I do my best to change around so I can attend to meet up with some good friends for a pleasant evening and I will Always do so, Frank since Ive known him has always bent over backwards and gone WAY out of his way to sort things for people I dont think its down to you to decide if he should give up being the rep! which it seems he now has!

I have not said Frank should stand down I have suggested that the Northampton members can have a say as to what would suit more people as a lot of regular attendees have gone....

I didn't put Alan in the earlier list... that makes 10 people I can name that don't go anymore!!

if the vote shows stay at Manor that will be the decision!

Keith you don't hear others moan... they talk with their feet and don't come to the meetings!!

Let the membership decide, I have no problem with that but while you decide where and when to go you need to decide on a new rep, I haven't got the heart for it any more so do whatever you like, I'm not interested now.

Interesting turn of events. To add my two penneth. I can't come along to meetings as Thursdays is the worst day for me. Other nights may be better, but to be honest most are busy, one way or the other.
From a pub point of view, as long as it serves beer, has tables and chairs, and is easy for everyone to get to, then it fits the bill.
Personally I don't think Overstone is the best venue, but it is the one that has been selected. It's not the reason I don't attend.

OMG... so many issues and complications in just one topic...

Here's my penny'orth...

Fact is, you will never please everyone and trying to do so is rather like herding cats... it simply won't happen, no matter how hard you try.

And Frank has tried... I may have 'only' been coming to MC events for 2 years, but I don't think that there are many people who put their heart and soul into the thing like Frank does - which is probably why he feels usurped at the moment and inclined to throw in the towel.  That would be a shame as he is one of life's good guys!

Overstone is Overstone... always will be.  It's not the nicest pub in the world but, like Hightower says, it has beer, chairs and space for MC to be reasonably separate from the great unwashed and journey time is not that critical... once I'm in the Disco then it doesn't make a lot of difference whether it's Billing, the World's End or OM.  By the way, if it comes to choosing the World's End, count me out.... hugely 'spensive and the style of furnishings means that ambient noise levels are huge, meaning that I can't hear the person next to me - there's no fun in that!

Thursday's can be a problem - the week seems to get more and more fraught as you work through for both Niki and myself and I know that there have been occasions where I have had to be in Holland, finalising last minute information for submission of tender documents and so on.  Last week was Jessica's GSE options evening at school, hence the no-show.... nothing to do with Overstone, Frank or work... just other things on!

To be honest, the first Monday was ideal - this is why Lee, Stuart and I meet (along with any others that can make it) under Lee's working title of SNOBS... South Northants, Oxon and Bucks (good thing with Lee, he knows how to do World Domination...) on the first Mon.  Last summer we tried to meet on the first Monday and do some lanes on the second Monday.

I hope this can be resolved as the Northants night was always good - and I would like to be there!

Finally, I don't think that it's appropriate to move closer to the M1 just to suit one person who choses to make the journey - like I said, once you are in the car, the extra 10 mins or so makes little difference.

Not this old chestnut again

I agree thats its a shame that not so many people come to the meets as used to, but i think this is more due to other meets being arranged more local to some, and for the east side a new club.

I dont see why all should be just changed for the sake of one member, who is not from the area, who could probably find a more local meeting?

If it was to change, any night is good for me, but beginning of the month was always better.

As to Frank as area rep, not only does he do all he can for all m,embers, old and new, local or not, but there are not many (if any) that would have the time, enthusiasm or "Want to" take up the role???

just my bit.

NOW FOR CAROL      ISNT THERE A BRANCH UP YOUR WAY THAT YOU CAN TRY AND CHANGE AS IT WAS YOU THAT STARTED THE LAST CHANGE WHEN WE MOVED FROM OVERSTONE . . AS MY OLD MAN USED TO SAY IF IT AINT BROKE DONT TRY TOO FIX IT

I am sorry I seem to have upset you Brian... I was under the impression you couldn't make it on a Thursday but could on a Monday!!

I was not responsible for the last move the overstone closed down .. but yes it was me that started the subject of a Thursday because Frank couldn't do a Monday & he didn't want to bring it up so suggested I did!!

There are more local clubs but I like the company in Northampton I just miss some of the people that used to attend too.

I am not saying it should be moved closer to M1 to suit me as yes it is my choice to travel down but the overstone does seem a long way out for others too.

If you read the poll it is open to ALL to see which option would suit most people... If the vote shows stay as it is then that is what the members want!

I am not trying to upset anyone or change a meeting that is not my local one I was just trying to see if we could find out why some of the old regulars stopped coming & if there was a way to get them back!

It appears I am being 'slagged' down by several people on this thread & I truly didn't intend for that to happen ... if you read what I have put in all my comments I have not criticized any individual so why are you criticizing me for starting a poll to see what everyone thinks?

I agree with Keith and Big A. How about having 2 Northants club mights. Keep the last Thurs at Overstone and have a second rep (maybe work along side Frank) at the beginning of the month somewhere else then?

I think loosing Frank would be a huge shame.

I'm hoping this will post alright from my mobile. I've been following this thread and 2 things strike me. The first is that it is only a poll, turn outs are lower than they have ever been. The second is we seem to have shot the messenger. I know she isn't from our locality, but she has been attending meets for at least 3+ years. Moving on, Frank - I don't see why you should stand down over this tbh. There is no malice in any posting I can see. Please bear with me here as I can only see about 20 chars at a time as I type! The club has a strong presence in Northants and we need to understand why so few turn up. Do we need to sort out pre-meet laning? Do people want speakers? Games nights? Give us some feedback and if necessary I will try my best to make the meetings fun, friendly and as free as a pub that charges for drinks can be! I hope this makes sense when read! One last thing, Frank, please reconsider OR if you really want to stand down, work with me in the interim while we try to find another rep.

Sorry Carole but i'm not in a position to vote..
I've not been to a Northants meet for a long time. I used to do the Leicestershire meet and also the Northants but as time goes on things change and we set up a Coventry and Warwickshire meet which draws 20-30 members each month and with everything else i'm involved with that's enough for me.
As a long time supporter of the group i think you have every right to voice your opinions no matter where you live.
Frank if your not enjoying it anymore then maybe it is time to go......... (not that i'm suggesting you do).

mmmmmmmm difficult issue, the only reason I set up the SNOBs meet was because I struggle to make the Thursday meet as opposed to the monday meet, also Overstone is 45 minutes from home. Frankie needs to stay as a rep, but lets see what others think.
