Riv Nuts

 Hi all, I have a job to do in a couple of weeks which involves the use of 6 rivnuts, they will be fitted to a panel with no inner acces so ideal for the job, BUT i dont posess a riv tool for fitting them and dont really want to cough up for one just now ,

    So was wondering can i use a nut  n bolt type system, ie wind the nut onto the bolt with the riv nut on the end of the thread, and with the rivnut located wind the nut against the rivnut whilst holding the bolt ( try to keep up please :lol:) thus squishinnng the riv nut into place  8-[  :lol:

  What you guys reckon  :-k

P.S i shall purchase a proper tool in the future, but right now saving up for some more exiting goodys for me 90  :drool:

I remember there good descriptions on how to do it on one of the landy forums but I forgot which one. I have done it but I think I used 1 bolt and two nuts (you lock one) and washer to spread the load to stop it turning a the begining... or somic :lol: (best to do a couple practice ones!) Been a quite a few years because I bought a decent rivinut tool and bits at oldsodbury for a fiver and not looked back ;) doing it the hack way is okay if only doing a handful. When you got the tool you tend go looking for things to use it on :D fireextingusher mount, front grill, slam panel brack mounts, intercooler mount bracket, headlmap/tail light cage fixings, header bottle mount, snorkel bracket, fuel filter mounts... list goes on :lol:

Yes I have done it in the past, but I have now bought one of these at £10 you cant go wrong.
A good hard ware type place should sell the rivnuts for a 10p each

you can good bargain of rivi-nut in bags of 100 in various sizes on ebay I bought alloy and steel ones. The larger steel ones (M8 I think) are near impossible to swage with the hand tool - alloy ones are fine but don't over do as thread can be pulled out.
