Leaving my freelander in 2 wheel drive
« on: February 14, 2010, 15:47:09 »
Hi everybody

Just got a Freelander (1999 v plate diesel) as I have always had defenders, was looking for something a bit more useable on a daily basis. It has the usual faults knackered VCU which in turn has effected the IRD. So whipped the prop of and been driving around in front wheel drive only which seems ok.

My question is this, I will get around to sorting the prop and IRD but will it do any damage driving around in two wheel drive.

Secondly, I notice that there is IRD blanking plates available why would you bother with these, why not just leave the pinion in place and leave it whirring around. Or if I leave it in two wheel drive should I invest in a blanking plate, if so why.

Love my defender but really enjoying the Freelander too, great for the daily drive around town etc just bit more of a friendly size in comparision with a disco.

Cheers

It won't do any damage running it in Front wheel drive, so don't worry.

Can't personally see the point in the blanking piece myself, so waste money?

Don't forget to tell the Insurance Company about the change.
