HELP HELP HELP insurance question re LPG conversion
« on: April 14, 2005, 18:26:15 »
Can anyone give some advice.
I have had an ongoing dispute with a 4X4 dealers in the north east re a Landy 109 county with an :PG conversion fitted.
When I bought the landy back in January I wasnt aware that you need a saftey certificate for the LPG to get insurance through most companies.
It seems I now have this resolved as the dealers normal insurance agents have said they will insure the landy without saftey certificate.
(I intend to confirm this myself before sign any paper work)

Does anyone know the legality of this?

In effect I'l be driving a modified vechical. I have spoken to my normal landy insurance brokers (peter best) who have said that as far as they know it must be declared and they woud not issue any insurance unless they had seen the saftey certificate.

I'm going to see the dealers tomorrow and they are going to take all the info and pass on to there insurers to get quote

I think some insurers are happy to take LPG conversions without a certificate, some people want the certificate.  I don't think there's a legality issue.

When I insured the 101 with CIS they didn't ask to see the certificate, although they did last time with the Range Rover.

However, you are well advised to put every modification in writing to the insurer, so they can't renege on anything if you make a claim.

If you don't have the certificate, you should be able to find a friendly LPG installer who will look over your installation and certify it if they're happy.

excelent
 :)
thanks for that I know that this dealer has at least one court action going against them at the moment and that they are less than reputable.(unfortunatly found this out after they got my cash)

I know that can not post there info but if anyone would like there details I'll be more than happy to give you there name and advise you to avoid them at ALL costs

I'm going to see them in the morning and have had quote of £160 but as its been so long for them to get this sorted if its only going to be £160 for fully comp with peter best if they could provide saftey certificate then I'm going to hold out for the dealers to pay insurance  - its been 4 months so a couple more dont relly worry me if they refuse, besides always got my 88' to knock around in
the plan is to get the 109' get its certificate and sell it on so will be advertising it in landy magazines etc but not ebay as sick of *(**&(^%% time wasters
