What a nightmare job...........
« on: February 14, 2010, 19:34:31 »
I've just lifted the engine out of my 300tdi disco, to say the top bolts on the bellhousing ae hard to reach is an understatement...!!!

Took me about 3 hrs to simply release the bellhousing bolts engine mounts and lift the lump out..... dreading trying to bolt it back together!!!
gone from 200tdi.... to 300tdi... still with loads done to it, in fact, even more than the last truck...LOL!!!

Take the centre console out, reveals a rubber type thingy with the gearsticks sticking through, remove the run of rivets round it and remove, that allows you access to the transmission bolts.

The first time I took out a V8 I used a 14mm spanner that i had to bend to shape, for one bolt I ended up hitting it with a hammer, via a length of bar.  It was a 3 handed job.

Now I use every extension I own and end up just ahead of the back axle, but with wobbly joints it goes in fine and torques up properly.
