Insurance - Who would you use ?
« on: February 23, 2010, 23:01:39 »
Hi Guys, just in the process of buying a 3.9 Discovery and need to insure before i collect on sunday.
Bog standard at the moment but i want to change all that asap.
Obviously not touching anything performance wise but will be lifting it, wheels/tyres etc & some protection for a spot of laning and the odd pay n play day.
Looked in the back of LRO, did an online quote through Sureterm who claim to specialise in Landy's and they came back £100 dearer than an online comparison site using exactly the same details ???

So who are you guys using or would you recommend to insure with ???

Thanks.
A.T.B.......Lee.

Frank Pickles - I've all mods declaired (ARB winch bumper, winch, lift, tyres, roofrack, CB... everything) £200 a year limited at 6K

Used to be with Adrian Flux but they seemed to put the price up and up every year - £450 for the same truck above.

Back of any landy / offroad / 4x4 mag and have a look at the lists of them. Phone around and play one off against the other.

Another vote for Frank Pickles.... no probs with mods and very well priced. And cover you for greenlaning and organised off road events.

Very modded 90 - £145 with 9k miles p.a.

Thanks to you both for the info. I will look them up in a bit and attempt to get a decent quote.

Adrian Flux came back with a quote of £335 via email but needed me to call them to confirm all details.
My best quote was £177 but that was road use only as far as i am aware.
I was hoping £250 ish tops now i've turned 40 !

Try Frank Pickles, but.... if they are over 16 years, classic insurance ;)

Another vote for Frank Pickles - frighteningly efficient and cheaper than others to boot.

May be a problem with a standard vehicle as they only do modified on their scheme (couldn't take Niki's standard F2...)

If that's the case, NFU every time - cheap (ish) and will also take mods as and when.

Discovery 300 Tdi - 2" lift, side exit exhaust, HD bumpers, T-Maxx 9500, removable tow hitch, snorkel and 235/85's

Discovery 4 Commercial - very standard but very nice!

Freelander 2 TD4 - Fun Prevention Officer's

That seems to depend on which local office you talk to! Our local office wasn't so keen on the mods, yet others have insurance through the NFU, mods and all.

Thanks Guys, All Sorted.

Gave Adrian flux a go as was insured with them a few years back on a Q plate that nobody else would cover. Unfortunately they wanted £335 without me declaring any mods. I already had a quote of £177 elsewhere on a standard road cover policy !

Frank Pickles were spot on !!   As somebody else said it has to be modified not standard though.
Told them it had minor mods (which it will in a couple of weeks) and asked about adding to what i had already listed at a later date ... No problem as long as the vehicle value doesnt go over 3k as i only valued it at £1250 for the quote.

I got your usual Fully Comp cover plus Full Offroad use which they said will cover me whatever i am doing but limited to 9000 p/a for £224 ... Well chuffed with that and hardly worth taking risks for less than £50 extra at the end of the day.

If anyone wants to give them a call ... The number is 01943 850999 and ask for Barry Wilson.
