would a NA engine fit into a disco 1 auto (p reg). before anyone tries to shoot me down, i want to run on straight heated veg oil and I'm after the most basic, well engineered engine possible. I hate engines with electronic sensors and things and just want a bog standard easy engine to work on. Some thing that won't go wrong and if it did i could work on it with limited tools and knowledge. Many THC Ian

Well, it will fit but it will be horrible!

Surely a 200 TDi would be a much better option? No electronics and with a heat exchanger will run 100% SVO or WVO no problems. And no thinking about it either, the engine is basically the same as the 300TDi that would have been in there originally!

i'm not 100% certain but i think that you can fit an earlier 300tdi injection pump to your engine which does away with the electronic parts...

that potentially would be cheaper than swapping engines (unless you happen to have one laying around) plus you'll get to fit a new cambelt and tensioners and have that security...

before jumping on this idea i'd do a little more research to find out if it's simple, be very wary of injector pumps that have had the centre pulley nut removed and the pulley boss taken off as i believe they require a special tool to reset the timing in this situation  as apparently it's not keyed to the shaft :(

if you want reliable then dont fit one of them  :P

Agreed, fit either a 200 or an ealry 300 with full one mechanical control.  Many Many are running about on veg oil or blends of it with no difficulty.  Injectors for an early 300 are not massivley expensive either, heads are 300 quid new outright, nice flexible, driveable motor, I luv 'em almost as much as a V8 :D

I used to run my 300tdi on veg oil and I did the complete kit, eg 2 tank, heater etc etc. All worked well until the heat exchanger packed up. Engine didnt like that. veg oil is rubbish at cooling an engine down and water is rubbish at making an engine run too! :roll: :doh:
