Drop Arm Removal....

As this isnt vehicle specific I thought I would put it in the bar....

Spent most of the afternoon trying to remove the drop arm from the power steering box.... even tried using the farms teleporter... Ive now taken off the box too see if that helps... Anyone got any tips???

two or three jaw puller, bit of heat and plenty of lube.

Undo the nut about 1/2 way and drive it over rough ground for a bit. It will come lose.

for me, loosen the nut a bit and drive it - Pauls right as it will loosen quite quick that way.

Thanks for those suggestions.... going to try the heat and pullers again now its off the vehicle.... tried the driving one and no joy....

The heat worked... just awaiting the new seal kit arriving and a new nut and locking washer and I can get the new one fitted...

I tried forever to get mine off, ended up rebuilding the balljoint with it in situ.  When I swapped the box I had to remove it with the arm in place.

One I had it on the garage floor, one swift belt with "persuasion", my big hammer and I had to chase the damn thing down the drive :lol:  Part of the probelm is getting a good swing at it.

I put the hydraulic puller on and left it tight, a couple of hits with a hammer and went for a cup of tea, we did hear the chack as it poped off

ended up rebuilding the balljoint with it in situ.  When I swapped the box I had to remove it with the arm in place.

I do have a leak on the steering box (leaking for 4 years but only at random times) and will eventually either replace it or try and fit the seal kits I bought for it awhile back....  anyone replaced the seals in a defender steering box?

im about to change the box.... not the seals though... i just figured £120 for a brand new recon one. no more play whooop! :dance:
