ended up rebuilding the balljoint with it in situ. When I swapped the box I had to remove it with the arm in place.

I do have a leak on the steering box (leaking for 4 years but only at random times) and will eventually either replace it or try and fit the seal kits I bought for it awhile back.... anyone replaced the seals in a defender steering box?
