I used to use this a lot when i was a gardener to fined the address and see if I could see what i was dealing with.

I do think its invasion of privecey though. there are people walking around minding there own business unaware they are being photographed for the world to see. no doute it will be live video in the not so very distant future.. I would love to sit outside the director of googles house with my nikon and see what he had to say about that. its wrong

oh i agree its a bit creepy but I can't pin point exactly what I don't like about it or why - but I do think it's usefulness for the good and benign outweighs the bad.

what i dont like about it as with all technology it will just keep geting better and better untill we have no privicey left. we are already traked in our cars buy pr cameras you may argue this is to combat uninsured drivers tax etc but it just helps build up the web of cameras and big brother world we live in and create less things you can do with out someone watching or folowing you.
its a hard line between crime deterant and privecy I can see that but when someone across the world can see if you have moed the lawn or not this is geting beyond a joke in my opinion

Just remember that when you are in a street you are in a PUBLIC PLACE, where you have NO right of privacy. Privacy "may" only apply when you are in a PRIVATE place, and that does not include the curtilage of a property.

what does the world care what you had on your drive at one moment in time in the past? The people that likely to effect you could see what your got on your drive on a daily basis anyway... people in your street, passers by, delivery men, commuters, and if its interesting enough they talk about what's on your drive  to their friends, family and random people in the pub and then those people will come and look too   then someone takes a photo and posts it on an internet forum saying hey look what this guy got on his drive.

dont mean to hijack the post and rant on but it just shows how things have moved on and in so little time to the extent that now anyone in the world who knows your postcode can take a 3d toure  of your house and garden prety much and see what you drive. its going to get alot more frightning than a 3d image a few months old its inevitable.

Stretchy,
sorry but come into the real world. This "system" was out of date the day after it was introduced. The photos of my street were taken at least 6 months ago, so things have changed since then. It gives NO ONE the chance to see what you are doing now. If they wanted to do that they would be taking photos of you every 12 minutes as a CIA spy satellite flew over the UK.
How often do you think Google are going to update this thing? I bet it won't be even looked at for the next 5 years, by which time it will have been superceeded by something else, probably much more imminent and immediate.

If you don't like what Google show of you and yours then get in touch with them with the relevant reference and ask them to blank it out. They have said they will do this if possible.

Personally we are going to use the nice free advertising we can get for the shop; it even comes with a nice free map to find us!!

EDIT: friend on another Forum has found his car in 3 different places, so how can he be traced then!!

Yes, but it doesn't bother me. No-one can trace me from it, and no-one can "case" the house any better than sitting in a car outside, so c'est la vie. As I said we're using it as an advert if anyone wants to know where we are.

I don't see an alarm box, old windows on front so maybe same on back... looks like bit of easy access from the rear..... I gonna steal your bird seed.
I could scout out lots of places from the comfort of my arm chair looking for back water ram raid targets that don't have store front protection, before I had to drive around looking for these places and planing my escape route, checking where the police station is and so on.

Alarm box, what's one of them?

Windows, you try living in a Special Conservation area and try changing them.......no @@@@@y chance!!

Back, you've got to get past the neighbours first!!

And you haven't taken into account the Watch Cat or the vicious gold fish!!!

Police Station, try 14 miles away!!!

what about if the neighbours had been caught by the google camera and I could see the tweed cap, walking stick and one of those coats you only can order from back of a SAGA magazine   meant they was no threat...
I do not seriously think anyone would rob a pet store.... well not if there's a genuine hardware store across road with laundary baskets and all sorts outside (is that village caught in a time loop or what !) I'm nether anti or pro really, just throwing out what-if's for both camps. Like lots of things it can be used for good and evil.

Village......you cheeky barsteward  I'll have you know we are a TOWN and very proud of it, and it can get very busy here. Try Googling "Llanidloes Fancy Dress"!!!!!

Interestingly StreetView doesn't capture an awful lot. It hasn't captured any of the "closes" behind the houses, or the walks.

When this was first introduced the crime thing was brought up, but it was shown that over something like 90% of house thefts were not preconsidered, but were spontanious.
