Green Defenders (colour)

Hope you can all help me here!!!

I am at the point of buying paint for my rebuild, original colour is coniston green, unfortunatley the supplier can not get this in celulose and has shown me another green which is available; it is not as dark as original.

what i am after is pictures of green defenders so i can see what differences there are and if i like the shade, would be helpful if you have the colour name as well but not most important.

Ive tried to google the colours in the landrover paint charts, but only get 1 or 2 on landrovers. Oh and non metalic only please. Unless some one knows a web address of colour charts for land rovers, with the actual

colour.

This would be great as i dont want to chuck my money on a green that doesnt look right.

Looking at colours on-line is useless. There are so many variables, but mainly how your monitor is set up. You need to see the actual colour chips to judge.

In any case, you know you really want it bright red  :lol:

that's landrover epsom green, it's a pearlescent paint that supposed to have a clear top coat. Kinda looks black into photos and in the flesh too unless up close. Halifords sell it in spray cans - would be interested to know if auto paint shop could mix it up too.

Saffy, getting epsom green is not a problem; but not in cellulose only in 2K.
Which then involves breathing equipment and an oven and filtration before expelling into the great outdoors; i liked the look of Epsom green but cant spray it myself.

I know the colour wont look the same on here as in the flesh, but the colour swatches arnt big enough to imagine your 90 in the same colour, and i dont want to spray it and find i hate it!!!

If all else fails it will end up white.

Nooo, not white  ..... unless you put blue and yellow chequer stripes down the side and drive up the A47 at 28mph to see how long a queue you can generate  :lol:

Try www.jawel.co.uk. They are very good with older paints (cellulose, etc.) and well priced. I got my primer and thinners from them.

excuse my ignorance, I have sprayed cellulose diamon white before on kitcar with my ol'man and did it properly. Since owning a landrover I have bought from a auto spray shop a green which I said I wanted to blow over a series truck with in garden, I think it was enamel.   Is enamel the same as cellulose?
What is the paint inside the normal spray cans that halifords sell? I have probably bought about 20 of them in last few years and pretty much resprayed the truck from the bottom to waist height (truck came with grass and animals painted on), I did the rear window blanking panels and recently the new driver wing... didn't use special equipment associated with 2 pak stuff. Cans are not economical at all nor ideal finish for whole truck ... I just wonder why I can't buy the stuff that's in the cans in litre tins and a can of thinners and spray myself without fancy gear. I just seek good enough blanket finish that more or less matches. I do not know what to ask for in paint shop - the women isn't overly friendly and get impression they don't have time for educating know-nothing non trade.

I just wonder why I can't buy the stuff that's in the cans in litre tins and a can of thinners and spray myself without fancy gear.

The problem is, as I understand it, that they are no longer meant to sell larger volumes (i.e. more than aerosols) to the public. It's all to do with controlling disposal of the waste, etc.

The 2K paints give off very nasty gases, so require proper respiratory equipment.

Saffy it should tell you on the can whats in it; enamel isnt the same as cellulose; until 2pack became popular most cars had been sprayed in cellulose from the factory.

Im lucky as the manager of the paint suppiles company i use, i have known for about 15 yrs. in a profesional way.

And he broke down the whole spraying process as to mixing quantities, how many and type of layers of paint, to all the materials i would need and even needle sizes.

Periods between different coats; just about everything i need to know.

all that work, every stage followed exactly, excellent finish obtained... 2nd or 3rd time of car being driven... still within month of spraying so paint not up to full hardening and the windscreen got shattered by a stone and the bits of glass trashed the finish on the bonnets, running boards and cowling *cry*

It was tested back in 1990 so old scheme.
ol'man never liked the bumpers marlin offered or the price (they rusted freely too) so he fabricated that one up - no word of a lie but that bumper is now a part of a garden bench :lol:
I have a simple alloy and 316 stainless one on there now.
Spots and bumper side lamp have since been removed, the underwing indicators removed, the wing top sidelamps are now indicators and the sidelamps are incorporated into the headlamps. Do not have any recent photos, car been under cover for a long time and needs some much love. I am probably too fat to fit into it anymore :lol:

Why can't you go to a decent car repair centre near you and ask them to match the colour and sell you some??

They can make whatever colour you want as on the back of the cards it tells them what & how much of each to put in????

Just an idea!! As when i replaced my doors i needed new hinges. Supplied them with the hinges & they sprayed them for me, already to fit and the paint was bake'd on in there oven/booth

This is the colour i think i will go for, sort of nato green but gloss.

No prep work done, just a flash over what was there.

i like it but what do you think?

My local auto paint suppliers mixed me a litre of diamond white cellulose few months back.  he will mix any colour to his charts and will usually tell you what colour it is when he pokes his head out the door for a look  ;)
