Not A 4x4 topic but hey - I need the advice
« on: April 17, 2005, 20:29:25 »
Ok so heres my problem. Im currently in the process of trying to change jobs as my current contract where i work runs out very shortly with no renewal.

Ive worked in the construction industry before, and want to return back to machine driving, but as i have no CITB ticket no one is willing to give me the chance to prove myself. It seems as if 'no ticket = no job' even tho im a competant opperator. Infact one plant opperator owner told me at an interview that as i had no ticket i couldnt have a job, just after he said i was a good driver, then in his next breath proceeded to say the problem is 'theres not enough youngsters wanting to work in this industry'

I never had a ticket before as it wasnt required where i worked and having just got a quote of near on £3k to get my ticket im in need of some help!

Can anyone suggest anything, im now in need of some help (In the East Midlands Region)!!

The ones below may be able to help. Might be a bit far but they may know of someone local to you. Worth a chat.

Thanks for the links -

nobody seems to do apprenticeships or on the job training anymore, infact they dont even give you the chance to prove yourself!!

I am not too sure how citb works.

The machines that I operate require a NPTC certificate.
When you register and given a number you can operate the machine for 12 months.
You must take and pass the test before the end of this period.
This gives you a chance to earn a living whilst getting used to the machine and all working practices.

Not sure if citb is the same or do you have to pass the test first.

if you still have your old citb  ticket  its valid for life you just need to take a refresher for the type of machine  you need to drive or opprate every 2 years

It's one thing to move it.
You should try putting a tree through it.

I operate a different make to these. It was easier to get these images.

Ive never had a CITB ticket, my old company never asked for them as it was a private estate. I have a LANTRA Chainsaw opp/maintenace and felling ticket tho. I know CITB have changed the ruleing too, as i understand it, to keep your ticket instead of the 2 yearly or 5 yearly refresher you now have to completed 300 logged hours per catagory!!!
