This may seem a stupid question but does the the water you put in your cooling system cool the gearbox as well as the engine?

No - engine only

no the water just cools the engine you will probably have a oil cooler down one side of the rad
As a youth I could run up and down stairs all day now I'm older it takes me all day just to walk upstairs

Well i had trouble with the M + S lights flashing and then losing drive on my auto TD5 so i had the xyz switch changed and everything was fine for ages but then it happened again and i noticed that i was very low on coolant due to a leaky hose so i thought maybe the gearbox was overheating was just a thought though.
