CIDER TAX another assault on Rural Life
« on: March 24, 2010, 16:55:05 »
I see that Darling has put at 10% above inflation hike on CIDER.

Once more we see London based politics affecting rural life. Yes strong cider may be the chosen tipple of homeless alchies, but Cider is part of rural life, part of Our Heritage, Apples are grown in the UK and traditional orchards are under threat. Cider is a traditional drink used to pay labourers and yet its being demonised by the Budget.

I suggest an environment tax on TAKE AWAY COFFEE in retaliation by us Rural folk (As it produces a lot of waste in cup)

I thought that the tax increase was only on the HIGH alcohol ciders and alco-pops, not the normal stuff. I'm sure that was what the BBC said.

But, come on,

Out of work for 6 months, and you will be given a job

If that actually comes to fruition....

Which is a brilliant idea.

It's a step towards breaking the 'life on the doll' mentality too many people seem to have.

Totally agree..... finally something that makes sense out of this government. Pity they couldn't have done it 10 years ago.

But it will never come to fruition!

The election is in a matter of a few weeks now so no time to set this up (I will bet they never intended too) on top of that it will take a shed load of money to set up and manage, and then they have to find the employers to take them on training schemes or jobs!! Not going to happen

I think if you read it carefully they're trying to tax the cheap and strong "white lightning" chav fuels rather than the proper stuff. That has to be a good thing for real cider producers as it should help them escape the associations with drunken louts.

I wonder if tey have reduced the amount you can sell "at the farm gate" before inccuring duty (its a surprisingly large ammount!) Unfortunatley my 3 apple trees wont make me a millionaire. (but the derelict orchard up the road... hmmmmm......)
