Shaft not long enough...(thats what she said!)

I've replaced a uj on my front propshaft but i cant seem to get it back on. It doesn't seem to be long enough to reach. I have tried attaching alternate bolts and had no luck. Is there a special technique?

Is it fully extended on the splines?

There's a bit that slides, allowing the prop to lengthen and shorten when the suspension is working, you should see a thinner section with a seal about a third along the shaft,  thats the splined sliding section, they can sieze up. Attach one end first then you should be able to pull the free end out to length, it might be tight, a tap with a soft mallet or deadblow will free it.. :lol:

after you free the sliding joint then grease it, there is a nipple.  If you got prop off you can try standing one flange and pull up on the other. If accidentally pull the sliding joint completely apart without marking it up before hand the UJ yoke need to be replaced in the correct position relative to yoke at other end (worth checking if someone else hasn't put it in wrong previously
