Membership for Kids to Mud Club

Alot of us have children who attend (sometimes moaning) events/lanes, etc. How would they like a section of the forum for them? Age limits would apply I guess.  Our daughter, Kate, is nearly 14 and chats with local friends about 4x4s, Land Rovers, lanes, etc and her dream is to one day own a Defender 90 which she will have resprayed ...... pink :shock:  She's already asked about becoming a GLASS member but sady she has a while to wait yet :( What do people think?

Would be good to have somewhere for them to chat too. :D

But then again, we don't want them hogging the computer, do we  :wink:  :wink:

Why don't they just join MC as it stands? My lad on here and few other younger lads and lasses.

But if another section is warrented I sure the admin peeps will come up with the requirements  :wink:

Nice to finally meet you guys - apart from the bash, hope you got home ok? We bought Kate a PC when she started senior school due to lessons on ICT, etc.  She's a natural. Has about 6 messenger screens going at once, playing a game and doing her homework :shock:  Now we know chaps can't multi task and maybe I've taught her well :lol:

Thing is she doesn't know who they are. How do we tell ages, etc. Most of us have wacky usernames which usually don't bear any resemblance to the person - well I don't think I look like a "freebie" :shock:

I too have kiddies girl 14, boy 11 and girl 9.
They all love reading over my shoulder and love the joke section and would love a forum area of their own.
I guess i'll have to sign them up!!! 8)

hi all, im 1 of those kids, well in 15/16 in a  month and i regularly drive the trialer and the standered rangie with the club and when we go out playing, i think im old enought to b alright i nthe forums, n neway its not like its michela jacksons forum is it?!?!?!
any way i'd just like 2 say cheers 4 loadsa help ova the last couple of months on ere!

we'll look into the idea of getting a forum or something together for them, the trouble is that any childhood activity needs to be closely supervised and carefully at that...

we have 4 boys  7  9  13  14 ,  two oldest have suzukis, and love off-roading,  letting them join in , in all aspects of ownig, MENDING and asking for advice has got to have its good bits. :(contented):

There is a whole legal minefield involved in allowing children access to chat and discussion forums without post moderation... and since all this is hosted on my servers, the legal responsibility lies with me.    (yes, this is why I get quite sensitive about what gets posted here)

I'll look into what is possible, but I'll be honest now and say that it will likely be very complicated.  :-(

Yes, I absolutely agree with the legal bits and safety.  Afterall, we've all heard and read about chat rooms and the like.  Our daughter talks on MSN alot and its getting a bit of a habit so we're limiting her use now.  Is Kate too young to sign up for herself? She's 13.  At home, Tazman set up the wireless network to broadband which has all sorts of security, filters and screening so we can monitor what Kate sees, etc.
If she can, her username would be: futureownerofapinkdefender :(mad): She saw one at Donnington (a 90) and fell in love with it :oops:   So, guess what we're saving up for?

a great idea i'm fully supportive of it however i do agree with Tim we all have to be careful we have a great club which does use tim server's so lets all look at the legal side and make it safe as possible for our future mud pluggers to be.

I think it's a great Idea

though as said would need 'careful' handling for Tim's sake as much as the kids  :lol:

Would it be possible for kids to have a different coloured avitar border or text - so at a glance peeps would be able to see whether they were 'underage'?

 'Junior Member' instead of 'cadet'

and Id reckonmend no PM, and a couple of forums just for them  :wink:

The requirements are really along the following lines :

Any child needs to be authenticated and given permission by a (verifiable) parent before they could use the forum

All messages would need to go through a moderator before they would be allowed on the site.. which is a) A big job for someone, and b) Makes the whole thing a lot less usable.


I hate to say it, but there are also financial implications.  I already have a loading on my public liability insurance because I host the mud-club forums and chat room...  I haven't asked the insurer about kids activities yet, but I fear I know what the outcome would be :-(

Mud club is family run club the legal side and isurance puts alot of burden on Tim, Joe and MUDDYWEB as a buisness.

We don't pay as members for the club which is one of the things i like about it but its not about finacial reason its also about the friendships people have made on here and the the banter between all marks and knowing if we are out playing somebody's there to help us either with helpful advice or a tow.

when we have events perhaps we could arrange for the kids to have fun afternoon aswell after all its all well and good for us adults to play but what about the children? after the offroading lets play some silly games with them i think we would all enjoy the laugh and fun.

If the kids do want to put something on here they put something like posted sooty junior that we its still monitored.

sorry to jump on the bandwagon i just want to make sure the forum is safe for our younger membersa ndour senior ones and also that we don't Muddyweb into a difficult position keep the forum fun and intresting.

Thanks for the picture, Little Landy.  Kate has had a look and its "kind of cool".  The one she really wants was parked near the burger wagon at Donnington.  I've got a couple of years to save up :wink:
