Discovery crash quite funny
« on: April 21, 2010, 21:33:44 »
Today goin up the motoway in the td5 the traffic stopped so did I then a 206 crashed into the back of me at high speed bloody hurt me but I got out see if there were any surivers from the 206 luckly she were still alive and movin air bag went off in her face  and her rads bumper and all the front end were in bits high ways men sweeped bits of 206 off the road and got recovery for a smashed up 206

the best bit is my bumper lamps are not even smashed my bumper has a few scratches the bad bit is the tow bar is quite badly bent

So my tips of the day are don't hit the back of a discovery ( I think a nuclear bunker is softer )
and never buy a small French car way too much plastic in it

If the tow bar is badly bent I would seriously get the chassis looked at, as the force from the tow bar wil have gone direct to the chassis. glad everyone is well though.

A car braking hard would also be 2-3 inches lower at the front when it hit you, unbless she wasn't braking at all.

Glad you are ok, I'd agree youneed ot get the chassis checked and your neck X-rayed.

If the chassis is bent they'll write it off. but also if the rear body is damaged at allthen it's beyond economic repair, the technical term for a write-off.

Now I've got a hire car ford focus 1.6 petrol and it's the sport one with huge wheels on looks good and drives well but I feel like I'm sat in a gocart it's too low lol

If your policy goes up you can claim compensation, however if it's been settled by then all they should care about is that it cost nothing on your part to repair so unless you have more claims than can fit their form you should be ok.

If it's a rear shunt, it shouldn't be classed as your fault at all, so your NCB shouldn't be affected.

I had a Ford Mondeo go into the back of the Disco, and it in turn was pushed into the back of the wifes Audi S3..... the insurance company took some convining as to how the hell could it be MY FAULT as the car was parked, locked and we were eating dinner IN THE HOUSE when the accident happened!!

The pic attached is what happens when a Ford argues with a parked 2 ton armoured landrover...... the mark half way up the bonnet on the mondeo is wherer the detachable tow bar reciever came to rest!

The truck suffered a broken chassis mount for the rear axle, and some scratches on the rear bumper. All repaired by Landrover body shop, initially the insurance company wanted to write it off, as a damaged Chassis, until I pointed out if the part was avaibable from LR it must therefore be a recognised repair!

I've still not got the td5 back off them Christ knows why it's takin so long to fix maybe it's because the have removed the gearbox then waited for the ok off the insurance componey to fix it as it would be expensive insurance gave the ok to fix it so the rebuilt the gearbox and fitted it now back to the body shop to work out what it needs order parts wait for parts to come fit them the send it to a tow bar fitting place for that fitting then back to body shop for a wash n clean out

Now to fix the gearbox 1990 quid, about 1500 for bumper and towbar, cost of hire car about 2000quid
total of about 5500 quid

Now I think this is rediculas for what is a 10 year old car n 3 years ago I payed 6000 for it
