lifting with a farm jack
« on: May 04, 2010, 14:36:50 »
hi, as some may have noticed by now i am a bit ocd about keeping magic mostly standard to look at or at the least keeping the limited mods discreet.

that said i am becoming convinced of the merits of a highlift jack. so i was wondering if the front towing eye would be strong enough to use as a lifting point in conjunction with the bumper hook attachment? obviously another would be needed to go on the drivers side but this would also enable the use of a bridle for recovery so is a good thing anyway. also is the back bumper strong enough to stand using one of the bumper hook accesories if you were to line up with the mounting brackets for the bumper?

ta in advance.

No.  But on the 300 the over riders covers a lifting eye built into the bumper.

I would advise a pair of "jack-mates" for the front, these combine towing eyes and jacking points, they are very discrete.

At the rear you can buy a hi0lift receiver that bolts under you towball for safety rather than hi-lift direct onto the towball.

You can also get a wheel-lift attachemnt in addition to the bumper attachment you mentioned for genuine Hi-Lifts, however I find the best jacking point is a good solid set of sill guards.

i have heard about the jack mates and they are discreet, to the extent i can't find any new for sale!

this then leads onto copying the design of the tow eyes but in a heavier gauge material say 16mm round and 10mm plate.  :-k

i'm not struck on the wheel lifting idea as i would not trust myself to douff my alloys.

i will look into the under tow ball doobery and see what i can find.

cheers.

If you have a welder, the tow bar lifter wouldn't be hard to make. Two bits of pipe and a bit of thick steel with some holes drilled in it. Same aplies to the front lifting points.
