the rules of waving!
« on: May 09, 2010, 21:45:25 »

  Hi,

since getting my 90 in december ive noticed some other defenders drivers wave, but some dont..whats the rule..its a constant source of amusement to the mrs that i make a plonker (almost the word she uses) out of my self and yet when she drives the 90..everybody waves back for some reason! lol

  cheers, james

you need to look out for certain charactoristics from the other 4x4's that makes them want to associate with you.

maybe a few dents or a nice layer of thick brown stuff. MAybe a lift or snorkel.

Already 3" lift and 265/75 Muds.

The ones with Ifor Williams galv backs (farmers), working commercial trucks like BT and the MOD will not return a wave and there's loads of all three around here so there is a delay in initiation of a wave exchange between wavers as they figure out what they are looking at. SO our waves are blindly fast close quarter affairs or just a subtle raised finger off the steering wheel.

Interesting when it comes to Series vehicles, some will wave fanatically. Sometimes they turn around and follow for miles in the hope of you pulling over and listening to them talk about their vehicle, other leafers will just totally blank the evil coiler. Then again I won't wave at a puma defender at all or a disco/rangie (unless it's obviously modified).

I do occasional wave at other modified 4x4 like Zooks because you can see the drivers eye well up, they then pull over and have a moment because a landrover owner acknowledged their existence.

That is hilarious.

I have the same problem with waving though, it's worse when you are in a 13 t DAF LF 180 Curtain sider with Mud-Club.Com written in the dust on the tail lift because most think im insane. If you do see a lorry like this in anglia around ipswich, woodbridge, Norwich, Bury st Eds, Sudbury, Braintree and back to colchester waving the please wave back.
Please. :embarrassed:

I have also had the exact same problem, my gf finds it hallirous when i half wave at someone.

i generaly wave at all LR's and check for those doing the same but looking at the vehicle is the best idea.

id figured the not wave at pumas rule..however theres one guy round here who has a modded 300tdi who never waves so i have now taken it upon myself to wave every time i see him regardless of which vehicle im driving! i even give him a blast of the air horns and a big smilley wave when im in the tipper! some might call me sad though.....

i like the idea of writing mud-club.com in the dust on my lorry...its a bit like bag ror the slap my top they used to do on the early morning radio 2 show..it could catch on!

I get more waves form LR with spots on.  If it has spots on the roof it's compulsory ;)

Lift your middle finger off the steering wheel as a 'hello', and if they don't acknowledge you then press your hand against the side window with the same finger aloft as they pass by!

It almost turns into a game of dare when you have a passenger with you as you don't want to wave and not get a wave back as you look/feel like a plonker, and if you don't wave and they do then you look/feel like a miserable git!

As a Defender driver it is almost compulsory to wave around these parts - but just in the sticks enough to have a fair few working farm/shoot Defenders who glare at you as a plonker!

Definitely the index finger casually raised off the steering wheel for me - you can always pretend you were going to pick your nose if you get 'blanked'....... A
3 Defenders on and I'd still buy another.....
