rr wheels

hi all been offered wheels for my defender they are the 5 spoke rr wheels do they fit straight on to my def 85 110 defender ex mod also what socket size do i need for the wheel nuts

if they are range rover classic wheels,they will fit on the front,on the back im not so sure if your back axle is on drums,someone on here will be able to help with that bit,as i had issues with my ninety,but i think it was cause i wanted p38 wheels with the adapter hubs that i couldnt have,as for the socket size,27mm.

Alloys only fit safley onto the hubs designed for them, these can be identified by having marks (either a tribgle or '-' stamped onto the end of the studs).

Given the vintage of you Defender I'd say they won't fit.  The driveshafts will poke out throught the centres and the wheels will just foul on the drivemebber before they fit snuggly on the flange.

yup they do but got some spacers now so hopefully AOK (fingers crossed)

Bother, I just remembered the really bad news.  RRC alloys are NOT rated for the weight of a 110 :'( and strictly speaking you shouldn't fit them.

i read that somewhere else but my pals defender has had the same set up for years and no bother and what weighs more a def or a rrc? god knows i think its a risk i can take as only really for road use j

Well I was reading in LRO today that Defenders often have the wrong weight on the V5 (MAM that is) but they can definitely weigh more loaded than any other LR product, hence the bigger rear springs and Salisbury axles.

Yes you are probably alright, the back end of a Defender is over-designed in many repects, but if something went wrong and the worst happened it would be used against you

Surely the risk of a wheel breaking at 60 mph on the A1 is far higher than the risk of a wheel breaking at an off road site when you are doing 5 miles an hour and there are only a few other nutters about?

Can i ask where you got the spacers and how much? I have a 1988 Ninety and have got my stickey mitts on some RR alloys and tyres.
