Wide angle propshafts

Any recommendations?

I am likely to need a rear one for 90 with LT77 box.

I see even Britpart list them these days, but I won't be buying one of theirs  :-#

Get them from either bailey morris which is where mine are from or the propshaft clinic.
Both are very good companies and my new ones are the only ones ive had which have been any good  :lol:
300tdi, southdown snorkle, tubular bumper, tds winch with dyneema, tree sliders, 6 spotlights, creepy crawler tyres, 2" lift, dislocation cones, dropped mounts all round, wide angle propshafts, mud dash, bucket seats

Really, thats a shame if its true.
I havnt heard anything from them and bought my last ones from bailey morris

Their web address now forwards to Dunning & Fairbank Ltd in Leeds.

Just spoken to Bailey Morris and their pricing is very reasonable. Somehow I thought they would be expensive in order to get the best quality but they are much the same as other 'quality' suppliers.

I'll get the suspension on and measure up what I need  :thumbup:

gwyn lewis props are good ( made by gkn driveline )
havent managed to bend/twist or snap one of his yet unlike alot of others that big companys sell  :doh:

Got mine made up by "Driveline" very helpfull & prices were good as well. Ordered on a Wednesday afternoon & wre delivered 9am on the Friday.

Been on there for 2 yrs now with no problems :clap:

I'd recomend retro fitting the TD5 propshaft and flange so thast you have the Cardan CV joint on the gearbox end, especially if you fit castor correction which all but straightens the axle UJ.

I have just fitted the cardon prop that i had left over from my disco onto my 90.... it transformed the feel through the wheel, far less vibration....... mine has some slightly longer springs on it, but not a lift as such, it had HD springs before, so sat quite high, but with a HD bumper winch and steering gaurd it had dropped a bit, so i put +1 inch springs to get it back up again....... i'm glad i didn;t seel the prop now!!
gone from 200tdi.... to 300tdi... still with loads done to it, in fact, even more than the last truck...LOL!!!

But isnt the td5 landrover double cardon propshaft non greasable, bailey morris made me one of those that was fully greasable and it outlasted any of my friends ones that were the standard td5 one which you couldnt grease.
Makes no sense to me to make universal joints that cant be greased  :doh:

Does the TD5 DC prop have a wide enough joint on the axle end to cope with a lifted setup with castor corrected radius arms?

The land rover td5 prop that i fitted to mine, does not have grease nipples on the cardon joint end... but does on the axle end...... not sure if the joints are replaceable even, i hope they are... they are fitted with circlips, so if that means anything.....................

And, as for the axle end having a wide yoke, the angle that the axle end works at very rarely changes.... as when the axle drops, so does the prop, so the angle from prop to axle stays pretty much constant..... well, thats how i see it!

In standard setup the gearbox UJ and axle UJ run through about 3 degrees each, though unli at the gearboxke the back where the gearbox and diff pinion are roughly parallel the drive angle turns downward at both UJs.

Anyhoo, lifting by 2" causes 3 dergees of castor and 3 extra degrees at the gearbox.

Fitting castor correction straightens the axle Uj up (did mine anyway) and adds another degree or so to the gearbox, this is what causes such a problem.

Anyway, the cardan joint will run smoothly at almost twice the angle of a standard UJ.

hello guys im going to be gettin rid of my 2" lift and i got some new 3" ones but i really want to get new propshafts what should i go for and what should i do ? would be nice to hear from u boys who sound like u know what ya talking about

As a youth I could run up and down stairs all day now I'm older it takes me all day just to walk upstairs

Steve do you need the longer prop for you lift.  Is your lift standard height springs with glynn lewis spacers and now the longer rear shocks.

The shaft isnt longer overall but the slip joint in the middle is longer to allow more movement before it falls apart :oops:

No. A lift on it's own shouldn't change the length requirement of the shaft. The standard shaft is designed to operate throught the full suspension travel. A lift simply changes the 'mid point' at which the vehicle sits. The radius arms still define the same arc that the shaft has to travel through.

As Matt says, if you have greater travel, the slip joint needs to capable of coping with it.

I have TerraFirma lift springs, plus GL 2" spacers on the front simply to level the vehicle up. I have +2" TerraFirma dampers at the front (no dislocation because of the spacers) and +5.5" at the rear.

BTW, shaft arrived today from Bailey-Morris. Excellent service.
