Extra reversing lights
« on: June 27, 2010, 23:50:49 »
Hey guys. Whilst revirsing in the dark tonight just relised how poor the light is. Does anyone know if it would be illigal to put 2 spot lights on the roof and wire them in to the bumper reversing lights?

Thanks

Sammy D

Use a relay or you'll burn out the switch.

It is not illegal because they will switch off when you drive forewards, if you aren't happy then fit a second switch somewhere

Thanks.

It's a standard holder with a damn big hole in it an an curved plated welded on the top. The curve of the plate matches the internal diameter of the wheel so it acts as a guide when putting the wheel on - meaning it's difficult to drop the wheel on the camera.

It has interchangeable centres for the light and bike carrier mount.

There's a notch cut out for a Disco 2 wiper. A bit of blasting and powder coating and Hey Presto!

The nuts are stainless with two modified studs to enable two extra nuts to be put into the holes which are normally empty.

I suggest you all have a look at
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_19.htm#nsch14requirementrelatingoptionalreversinglamp
points of note
"1 ...   Not more than two"
"5 ...   An approval mark"
That would be an E11 mark, but exactly which I can't find ... go look at a makers reversing light I guess.

If you're thinking of getting around it by calling it a "work lamp", that's fine, so long as it does not automatically activate in reverse gear to expose the lie.

But ... there are restrictions on when you can use a work lamp on the road, of course :-
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_4.htm#(Tiii)27restrictionuselampotherthanthosewhichregulation24refer
"No person shall use ...
  Work lamp ...
Used so as to be lit except for the purpose of illuminating a working area, accident, breakdown or works in the vicinity of the vehicle"

If I were you, I'd get a patent on that  :-k  I'd buy it

Sorry - forgot to say that it is really designed as a working lamp. It takes its powered via a reverse circuit activated relay and it has an override switch. Day to day use it's never switched on.

THAT IS SWEET!!!!

Thank you. The camera links to a monitor on the dash. It is wired up in three modes....

A Permanent
B With ignition
C With reverse.

It has two feeds, one from the camera and one from the central roof mounted DVD.
