Sankey 3/4T Tubs
« on: August 01, 2010, 17:22:32 »

Im afraid the tub on my old sankey is past repair, I was hoping just to patch the holes in the floor and top of the sides above the wheel arches but I just dont think its worth it.

Does anyone know where I can source a new tub? there was some on ebay a few months back and I was sure it was craddocks or paddocks that was selling them 2nd hand but typically I cant find one now

Many Thanks Keith

IT was Paddocks, and they were worse than useless when it came to trying to buy one.

I rang them several times, once the right person wasn't there to process my visa card, and then when i wanted to get a courier to collect, they refused to sell me on because "they've had too many couriers damage stuff"

I explained that if I had organised it, then any damage would be between the courier and myself, nothing to do with Paddocks, but they still refused, so stuff 'em!

You might be as well off buying a newer one in decent nick and selling your chassis as a project.

Seconded - it'd be a great find for anyone looking to build a camping/overlanding trailer.

What does the 3/4t designation refer to by the way? Just trying to work out whether they're under the magic 750kg fully laden and therefore legal for those of us with post-97 licences to haul.

750kg load over top of weight of trailer so no.

Damn. On the other hand I've never been a huge fan of trailers as they limit your legal cruising speed, so it isn't such a bad thing!

If it's under 750kg loaded then it doesn't need brakes, this helps keep the unladen weight down but on a LR it's like having your roof-rack fall off and get dragged along behind.

Depending on what your truck weighs loaded you can still get away with a Sankey, fo example a RRC has a MAM of just over 2,500kg leaving almost a tonne for a trailer, depending on what a Sankey weighs empty (anyone know) you could tow it.  My sister's first caravn was a 2-berth with shower and bog, 950kg all-up.

Not sure this thread started out with the later widetrack tub in mind but the internet says my 'sankey' widetrack FV2381 MKIII has an unladen weight of 509kg.

Could you replate it with a lower MAM (and then make damn sure you don't exceed it)? I know some motorhomes are given lower weight limits than the chassis is actually able to handle in order to duck under speed limit/licence/parking problems they'd have if they were rated higher.

Caravans thus converted have all sorts of exceptions/provisions like seatbelts etc.
