Knock from Rear on left & right lock
« on: August 24, 2010, 10:18:35 »
Hi all
Think I know the answer but thought i'd post as title says it's on both locks, got underneath it last night slight play in the diff mounts n/s mount the bit that point's to the floor I can twist should I be able to twist by hand, Should there be any movement on the diff I can push front up slightly

The other thing should there be any play with the Drive shafts (ie movement toward the wheel and back to Diff) as again there is slight movement both sides,

Thanks in advance
Rob

Early Freelanders had a problem with diff ratio tolerances. It caused odd tyre wear on the rear and gave a knocking noise a bit like a CV failing. The inside edge of the rear tyres wears with every second block lower that the others.

If you can push the rear diff up and down I suspect that the mounting on the nose of the diff is fubared. Try replacing it.
