rattling noise

Hi
There is a loud rattling noise coming from my bellhousing/gearbox, it drives fine, just got back from Wales and still OK.
The noise is there sometimes and then goes, first thought it might be the turbo until I got under the car and got the wife to press down the accelarator.
Any ideas, I am going to split the gearbox tomorrow to see unless someone knows different?
Cheers
Dave

Hi all
Split box from engine, changed clutch bits, cleaned out the gearbox oil!, put new seal and gasket on the gearbox, put back together and gues what - the noise is still there, I now suspect the gearbox so I think it's time to leave and wait till it dies.
Might think of changing to a R380.

Check the propshaft ujs, they can make a noise coming from that area.

speedo cable rattling on the exhaust, hand brake cable vibrating on the seat box, oil shield on the transfer box output loose and spinning, propshaft UJ's worn.... but I guess you tried all that before diving into gearbox.

Hi guys
I suspect it could be to do with the shimming on the gearbox from cover plate - the one that holds the bearings in place where the pinion shaft goes in.
It's all bolted together now so I'm just going to run it and hope for the best had enough of messing.
cheers
