Where can I get....

...a CB whip/aerial near Basingstoke or Reading?

I lost my whip at the weekend and need to replace it before thursday!

Don't mind buying a whole new aerial if I have to.

I thought about getting one online but it has to be here before a 2 day trek so dont want to rely on the postal system.

Anyone know where you can get one apart from Maplin Electronics?

Maplins were selling a little centre loaded mag mount for 10 or 12 quid  a while back, but not sure if they have them now

They have 2 in stock "somewhere in the company" but not in either Reading or Farnborough branches :-(  grrrrrrrr

am off to wales on friday and I need my cb transmitting again!

put your post code in see where it comes up, they can get the items in to the local shop if they dont stock it

It would be nice if when I phoned maplins they could have told me where they were located.. they had some massive stock take this sunday so it shouldn't be too difficult!

odd! they are showing for farnborough and reading!

I didnt realsie you coudl do a postcode search like that - I'll try all the aerials until I find one!

These little things are ok for local use, you have to do a bit of trimming though the swr is way out on the 2 i had

Pick one up as a backup, and see if thunderpole do a decent one, you can always swap to the cheapie in difficult conditions

just realsied the mini-mag one was the only one i didnt ask about!

can the aerial be removed from the mag-mount for that one, I'm thinking I could just plug it into my big mag mount if that's the case

Tell me what you need .

We have a top notch CB shop in Llanfairpwll and I could get it for you and take it to bala if you want He dose a stinger with a mount for about £20 including the co-ax cable and plug :D
If you have a base already then the stinger is about £9 ish
If it helps let me know .

and if it's one of them little ones with the shuttle in the middle I've got one in the garage you can have.. :wink:

Maplin Warning!

We were off on a weekend holiday recently and I was looking for a remote controlled car for the boys. Maplin had just the thing and apparently instock near where we were going.

So, I phoned them up to confirm stock ... "yes sir, 2 in stock. I'll put your name on one". Excellent! We set off and diverted to the Maplin store on the way.

Mid/late journey, I get a call on my mobile ... "Hello, Maplin here. There's been a mistake! Excuse 1, blame computer, excuse 2, blah blah, sorry!" B'stards :evil:

I didnt want to take any chances cus I'm off to wales at the weekend on a two day trip :-)

Maplin did have one when I got there, and there was no excuse for them not having one as yesterday was maplin national stock take day!

I've had the same though, I asked if they sold such and such and they told me I did, when I got there, they don't even sell whatever it was.

Got a tornado stinger for 9.99... Will tune it in later when I have some time.

I think I transmitted twice (chan 35 UK if it matters) after the whip had gone, how can I tell if it has caused any damage?  Touch wood it wont have!

We've got an excellent CB chap near us. He's based in a sort of port-a-kabin on the Welcome Break services M5.  On M5 Northbound at present but he keeps moving :shock:  Got 2 spare mag mounts with long whips sat in the garage doing nothing - £10 each? Meet on M4 if helps?

I've also had good service from Thunderpole. We live less than a mile from the sorting office but when I've ordered from them Royal Mail are knocking on the door the following morning at about 7am.

Thanks everyone for your offers of help and support.. especially heartening as I was made redundant last Thursday :-(  Second time in 2½ years!  

I managed to get one from Maplin in Slough in the end 9.99 so not too bad.. had to hold myself back buying more stuff though!

Steve (muddy-steve) gave em a heads up for a place in farnborough - am gonna pop down tomorrow to see if I can get a body mount as I want to mount the base just below the roof line at the rear so it doesn't get knocked off so much!
