Suicider at the Dorest steam rally
« on: September 05, 2010, 08:38:13 »
Anyone go to The Great Dorset Steam Fair? I went yesterday for firs time and was blown away by the shear scale of it compared to other steam rally I have been to - didn't cover half of it. Plenty of landrover around of all ages and models and mods. Few people around laid low with an empty plastic cup next to them. So thought I better investigate and found the source in Wiscombe Ciders' small army tent was serving what was labelled up as 'Suicider' 8-10%. A pint of sweet mild scrumpy cider in the sun and the world started to spin, so another pint just to make sure and yep...pretty strong stuff   Pretty sure I seen a racoon and a donkey moving around the cider press

Good stuff then. My old man used to bring some cider home from pheasant beating, good stuff supposedly in the region of 17%, rough he used to call it!!

I live about 12 miles form the steam fair, and used to go every year when i was growing up, we used to camp up there for the duration, however, now it's just a total pain in the arse, it cloggs the roads up for at least a week...... nightmare, good event for sure, but very expensive to get in, for a family anyway, not saying its not good value, its just flippin expensive!

Been there done that, got bored..........LOL
gone from 200tdi.... to 300tdi... still with loads done to it, in fact, even more than the last truck...LOL!!!

I went for the first time ever on Saturday - free tickets so the entry cost was NIL

Geez it's a big site! You definately need more than one day to see it all. Still, managed to take more than 800 photos and meet some really interesting folks. The demonstrations of pure pulling power were impressive too

The food was rather expensive compared with other similar events I've attended this year.

In the heavy haulage arena a large steam train on the back of a flat bed being towed up and down by four traction engines was a pretty awesome sight ....

I thought seeing them pull that 200 tonne tank rig was even more impressive.

Still editing the pictures  :(

ahh suicider, spent many a good night on that stuff, and helped make it quite a few times.
you would of definately seen a donkey and a racoon there, it wasnt the cider making u halucinate haha.
the raccoon is called "coonie", and is one of many they have. but thats the only "tame" one :)
a mate who is the godson of the owner of wiscombe, was given a racoon for his birthday a few years back, really tame, and is called vincent.
sadly couldnt go this year, really gutted :(
