Oops... Snorkel wouldn't have helped much.

I wonder how the occupants got out - with water that deep, opening the doors would have been almost impossible until the cabin was completely full with water.  Maybe they left the windows open.

i wonder if he complained of a little dampness in the footwells?  I had that with some landys i pulled out of a river once. I was passing by in a tractor when i was stopped by a bloke asking for a tow, his series 3 was up to the doors and stuck where he was trying to pull his mate out in front which was up to the roof then he told me there was a third about 5 metres in front which was submerged   turns out they thought it would be fun to drive up the river bed unfortunatly the rivers agency had recently dredged it about 10feet deep to stop flooding so first bloke disappeared when he went over the edge

Just watched the video...

1) They're doing some fairly chunky stuff there!  Even the concrete step at the beginning looked quite full-on to me.
2) If you want a go-anywhere vehicle, you need a tractor, judging by the video.
3) Watch for the bit where the JCB driver lowers the bucket onto the guy's foot!
4) It looks like they experienced the "floating Discovery" syndrome I had in Iceland - got a bit out of depth and then drifted off into the really deep stuff.
5) Pity the guy who had to attach the rope to the recovery points, 6 feet under muddy water...
6) Part of the problem getting it out was as it came out of the water, there was a couple of tonnes of water in it, trying to pull it back in.  If they'd been able to open the back door, life would have been much simpler - it looks like the central locking had locked, so they couldn't open anything.
7) It looked structurally in quite good shape after being dragged out - the doors all seemed aligned OK.  Given the way it had been heaved around, I'd expected it to be a little bent by the end.

Well, I don't think I'll be entering with the TD5 next year...

theres something deeply wrong about this lot.
Why drive a disco into water that you need a life raft fitted on the roof for?
but then again why the hell not.
Dont think I would of quite gone that far though

Given the amount of water & the location, I wonder if anyone got a pair of Concrete wellies?

erm.... isnt that a waste of a good disco...

Mind you, apparently it was a similar situation that caused my Dad to be captured in the 2nd world war, in Italy too!! He did a little excursion over a small stream, saw some Germans, tried to retreat but it had been raining and turned the 'stream' into a massive flood river..... got caught by the enemy and spent 3 months in camp....

Maybe he stalled it crossing a 'stream'
If I could only find some mud to play in, I would be as happy as the preverbial pig!!!

There's been a lot of unseasonal heavy rain in Sicilly so far this year- hence they might have found the river crossings much deeper than expected!

I'm flying out to Sicilly on Wednesday this week to visit some relatives in the mountains. Sicilly has great offroad potential (even 'on-road' can be dodgy in places!). I'm not hiring a car this time round as we're only there for a week. Next visit I intend to borrow or hire a 4x4 to access some of the remoter mountain tracks.

Thanks to the original poster for the link by the way- never found that website before.
