Gearbox swop

I have been asked if a manual gearbox & t/box from a 3.5 V8 will fit onto a 200tdi manual????? they are both 200 series discovery's.  thanks in advance

yea would be a straight swap . . the only thing you may have to change is the bell housing for the 200tdi as i dont knwo if the v8 is different . and also the mountings on the bottom of the gbox  . . but there basically the same gearbox a tbox .

I could be wrong but I thought the V8 gearbox had some different gear ratios?

Think you may be right there Matt, well the auto is deffinately different but not to sure about the manual

On a TDi the input shaft is shorter as is the bellhousing IIRC.  The splines for the clutch are smaller too.   Also 1st gear is lower on a TDi to help you set off.  I guess a V8 might rip the gearbox apart with the same ratio.
