The flash
« on: April 28, 2005, 08:55:49 »
I have notice you don't get the flash alot anymore when passing a fellow land rover driver wot is going on, i had one today said hi and he looked at me as if to say get out of here. Are we all stoping saying hi, are is it just a few of as.  I will carry on intill it goes back like it was a few yrs ago, where we all said hi. Are is it just that all the posh gits out there are buying the defender, discovery etc, for the look to say i have one of them big things on my drive.

unless the motor is tricked up i don't bother with rangies or disco's the drivers just stare at you as if your a retard.
most of the defender drivers give a wave and a flash though even the farmers!

The land-rover family now sells a lot more to "lifestyle" customers who want the look, but don't really want to actually be part of it.
Having driven a series 1 for years and been waved back at regularly I bought the wife a disco, even those in series/defenders I know didn't wave, perhaps as its now my car and being sligtly modd'd they'll wave?
Even DOC members don't wave to each other around here....

i agree, but also believe in the comments of life style. i was pleasently suprised when i bought my first landy ( defender 90 300tdi) a little while ago. i came from a motorcycling background where originally every one waved at each other as a sort of kinship. other than the flash multi coloured leather lads on the latest plastic day glo rocket who were only there for the image and put the toy away if there was a cloud in the sky.. when i left that circle (due to serious accident) and came across to landys again ( an old attraction) i was nicely suprised when defender drivers waved and made us feel welcome. but then again looking on these very pages there are disco, rangie, and all opther makes doing their level best to say hi and welcome, so its not the motor its the driver...
It was already broke when i got here... honest!

Liiving in a very urban area I dont bother greeting discos/rangies/freelanderthingies as they would more than likely just check to see if they had their lights on full beam by mistake or something. Other side of the coin are the defender/series people who always wave back, there arnt that many of us around here I guess.

Only seem to get waves from tricked up beasts, having the snorkel seems to be the deciding factor.

I know exactly what you mean.  Think is when it is a proper Landie coming the other way the wave is often accompanied by a beaming smile.  The ones who don't aknowledge you are the ones missing out.  Sod them.
