disco indicators
« on: November 13, 2010, 14:44:37 »
hi all. i bought a v8 disco and thought this was an easy fix. all the bulbs are working but the indicators flash fast on both sides. i have changed the relay twice so im stuck for ideas. i have the 300 series bumper set up. indicators in the bumper but not in the light cluster. i have the four pin relay but i have seen three pin ones. would one of them be what i need for this set up? or should i wire up anther bulb to slow down the flashing. thanks

Has someone put in LED lamps instead of regular bulbs? Or even 24V bulbs?

had similer trouble when i removed the rear bumper lights, the relay is set up for the resistance or 6 bulbs, you need a 4 bulb relay and plug that in,

It flashes fast because it thinks you have a bulb failure.  The 4 pin has the trailer repeater and supposedly heavy duty contacts.  For a 300 series they can be really expensive becasue they aren't a standard size.

Right, for a 4 bulb relay you need a different part to the few cars that had 6 bulbs ei lamp clusters and bumper, a few were built by LR and many converted.

It should say something like 21wx2 + 5wx1 + 2wx1 on the one you need and I'd say the one you have says 21wx3.........

Plug in  a trailer and it will flash fine ;)

If you never tow you don't need a 4 pin.

hi, thanks for the replys. my relay says 21wx4+5w+1.2w MAX 21wx8+5wx2+1.2wx2. hope that makes sense. would it help if i just unplugged the trailer wires? thanks.

Right, what it means is 21wx4 to get the tell-tale for the trailer too.   That's what it's designed to handle on a regular basis and the bulb failure warning is based on that load.  It needs 3 bulbs to work normally, any less and, well, you know really.

The relay needs to see more bulbs or you need a different relay.  It should work if you add the Meastro tail lamps or lamps on your roof rack.

The alarm feeds the indicators through a different fuse.  Is it ok with a new relay in?

Hi. It's just the same. I did notice a couple of times the indicators stopped working. Moved the relay and they worked again so I'll pull the fuse box out and look over the connections. Thanks for the help. Keep it coming.
