Range Rover Evoque

Oh ... my ... god!
I was at the Royal Highland Show and am likely going to be in the market for a new 4x4 this coming autumn/winter and thought I'd take a nosy at the Land Rover stand.
The new Evoque had a whole bundle of people fawning over it so I had a quick look round. Since there were people all over the interior I decided to look in the boot. Plasticky and cheap was what I was thinking when one of the stand girlies came over and asked me what I thought.
Me: "Pretty horrible to be honest - it's a real footballer's wives car isn't it?"
Girlie: "Oh well it's the full capabilities of a Range Rover."
Me: "Really? I thought it was just a 2 wheel drive?"
Girlie: "Well there's a 2 wheel drive model option."
Me: "Eh? So it's a Freelander 4 wheel drive system with a Range Rover styling?"
Girlie: "Kind of ..."
At this point SWMBO called me away because the baby was acting up.
The electronic close boot button was the thing which really cracked me up!

Personally, I think they've sold out to the devil, by offering a 2wd option. But, if it sells, it all adds to LR's income and helps keep the brand alive. All fine, so long as they keep making 'proper' 4x4's as well.

SWMBO has just bought a 1 year old Freelander 2 and I must admit, it's a lovely car.
Talking to the salesman at the dealership he was very upset about the whole 2 wheel drive thing. For years they have been conditioned to sell land rover on the basis of 4 wheel drive "it's all we do, that's why we're the best", "we don't do 2 wheel drive and that dilutes our expertise", etc. etc. and then all of a sudden 2 wheel drive freelander and evoque
It just goed to show what happens when the accountants take charge.......
