HELP - Fitting Power Steering to a 90
« on: August 02, 2011, 21:07:14 »
Hi All

We are trying to fit power steering to a friends 90 have installed the new box pump and all the pipes, when we tried to fit the belt from the pump we realised that the crank pulley is not right.

it has 2 v groove pulleys one for the alternator and the other he assumed would be for the power steering pump. When we offer the belt up it is a good belts width to far forward, and after looking at the one on my 200tdi we came to the conclusion that there should be another pulley. is this right ? and if it is does he have to change the crank pulley or is there another pulley that bolts onto it we are hoping its the later.

If anyone knows the answer or even better has one lying around that they no longer need we would love to hear from you, as we have a camping trip planned in two weeks and at the moment he has no vehicle.

thanks

Steve

Mines a 200tdi with a defender engine, the crank pulley has 2 V-grooves seperated by a flat section, the power steering belt is at the front I think....just gonna take a look to confirm

Hi Axetamer

Many thanks for that, the pulley we have is nothing like that and does not have the front pulley, we need to try and get hold of one like yours, but proving rather difficult. we have a trial coming up on the 20th of August so looks like we might end up fitting the old steering back on.

Thanks

Steve

Managed to salvage the correct pulley from a mates 90 that was rotting in a field.

All installed now and working very well, this has to be one of the best mods that you can do has totally transformed the car.
